WBA manager in no doubt after Saturdays game we’d be promoted but fired warning shots at Leeds owners. He said stick with same squad in pl and be relegated by February, invest 200m for a chance of staying up.
And the Watford manager a couple of weeks back says we were a mid PL level team… no different to playing Fulham in his view. I err to mowbray’s perspective. It’s possible to have a style that works at champ level and just doesn’t cut it a league up against sides much better in transition and passing through the press. Burnley looked outstanding in the champ under Kompany and were a car crash next season. I was never that convinced by Leicester or Ipswich last season… they weren’t dominating games every week like we have. I think IF we go up we do so with a better squad than recent promotion teams.., it’s still short of PL quality though. We probably need to replace our worst 6 players with 6 Pl std players. What does that cost… £150m? maybe a bit less if we utilise loans well. The 10 and striker will likely take half of that.
Assuming we go up. Difficult for me to judge because I watch very little PL or any other football other than us. However I do believe we need an upgrade in a few areas to give a chance of survival. Probably 4 decent signings might do it, hopefully some with experience of what’s needed at that level. Think we need additions in all key areas, goalkeeping, the defensive line, across midfield and a striker. The trick is who can we afford and how will they affect the squad dynamic. I personally wouldn’t look for a marquee signing, but obviously it’s the job of the recruitment team to get whoever fits the bill. Good luck to them, they’ll need it.
We need to be better than the two teams who come up with us and one other PL team, easier said than done but shouldn’t cost £200m We don’t need 10 players like Ipswich tried, 3-4 quality players and slowly build
