It's Monday 3rd March and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Stalemate against the Baggies West Bromwich Albion proved to be a stubborn roadblock for the Whites, as they battled back to secure a 1-1 draw at Elland Road, ending their five-game winning streak in the Championship. While Leeds remain at the summit, eight points clear of third placed Burnley (who face a tricky trip to Cardiff on Tuesday night) the Baggies demonstrated resilience and extended their own unique record as the Championship's draw specialists. The match sprung to life on just six minutes. With Firpo out of position, the visitors were given free licence to attack down their right channel. Price's speculative cross found Swift unmarked on the edge of the area, but with Meslier rooted to the spot, dragged his effort just wide of the target. Two minutes later though, Firpo more than made amends. Daniel James whipped in a dangerous cross from the left, and Junior Firpo rose expertly at the near post to head home, marking his third goal of the season and continued his scoring streak after netting in the previous match against Sheffield United. However, as the half wore on, Leeds released their stranglehold on the game. The Baggies capitalised just before the break when Pascal Struijk gave away a needless free kick. Swift, this time delivering from a free-kick, floated a deep ball into the box. Darnell Furlong, showing impressive aerial prowess, met the cross and looped a perfectly angled header back across goal, leaving Meslier stranded and finding the inside of the post. The second half saw both teams push for a winner. Furlong almost grabbed a second with an acrobatic header that went just over, while Tom Fellows had a late chance for Albion thwarted by a strong challenge. Leeds responded with their own near misses, as substitute Mateo Joseph rattled the crossbar and James went close with an effort of his own. Despite the late pressure, neither side could break the deadlock. While Leeds might have hoped for more at home, a draw is far from a disaster. Their impressive 17-match unbeaten run remains intact, their goal difference is a healthy +50, and they still sit atop the Championship table. Despite the game crying out for a spark, the 24-year-old, who arrived with considerable expectations, was once again overlooked. His league action in 2025 has been incredibly limited, with only a mere 98 minutes of league game time. Having been seemingly frozen out recently, his exclusion against West Brom begs the question: is this purely down to form? Or are there deeper issues affecting his relationship with Daniel Farke? Whilst his tireless running and commitment to the cause are undeniable, questions continue to linger about his end product and consistency, particularly in recent months. He has been a mainstay in the Leeds lineup this season, starting a remarkable 34 out of 35 league matches. Undeniably, his contributions in the first half of the campaign were invaluable. He brought energy, pressed relentlessly, and played a key part in Leeds' attacking moves. His overall season to date could be described as stellar in terms of appearances and effort but the narrative has shifted as we moved into 2025. While his work ethic remains unquestionable, his output in the final third has come under increased scrutiny. His current season tally of 8 goals and 2 assists in nearly 2800 minutes isn't necessarily poor, but the distribution of those numbers tells a more nuanced story. In 2025 (11 league games), the 24-year-old has struggled. Morning, Re Aaronson, he’s annoying and frustrating to watch but a nuisance to the opposition. Not perfect, but his work rate is invaluable.
This. It's all very well, Piroe dropping back into that position with 15 minutes to go and looking good, against tired defences, but he's never looked good when starting there. It's easy to get blase about workrate... 'least you can expect' etc... and I get that, but some players just have bigger engines/output. When we were in the PL he was the top km covered per match in the league (Yes not all of it productive or in the right direction ). The amount of time his harrying forces errors from the opposition and leads to us getting possession back is invaluable and in my view under-rated by a lot of fans. If he had Solomon's ability on the ball he'd be at a top PL club. He doesn't. Deal with it guys and accept he's been a vital cog this year, even if he's annoying at times!
Re liitle largie. The form of Solomon and James has kept him and Gnonto out. He showed flashes in the first part of the season, but didn't look fit enough to last 90. Then got crocked. He's not shown anything really since his injury. Hard to take a view when he's not had a decent run, but I don't see him stepping up.
This. Can’t really have complaints when James & Solomon have stepped up to the plate in most games. Only being spoken about cause we drew. Think we can question it more if the wingers drop in form is consistent
