Liverpool have a growing interest in Newcastle and Sweden forward Alexander Isak, while Arsenal also remain keen on a move for the 25-year-old. (Times - subscription required)
Ah, Arsenal "keen" on Isak, bless. The only player they've signed from us in nearly 50 years is Matthieu Debuchy, we ain't about to let them have anyone good.
That's like what we paid for him, pretty much, maybe even less than we paid, as he's played for England now and presumably that triggered add ons. And he'd be what....3rd choice behind Robertson and Tsimikas?
Don't get it tbh, Robertson is only 30 and has at least another 4 years there. Plus Tsimikas is already cover there, wouldn't make sense for Hall even if they did want him.
I predict ISAK and Gordon to go in the summer. We should get £200m for the pair I reckon. We are a few years away from being able to keep them so need to accept the inevitable..
Spent a lot of money and the decent players we have don't really want to be here. Such a shame, but I suppose we'll need another step backwards before we can start to move forwards again. Isak off looks like, but it's the absolutely need we have to shift the deadwood and upgrade significantly. I don't trust Howe to do what's necessary. Yet another relegation (Burnley, again) player incoming. Any talk of new contracts for Wilson, Targett, Schar, etc., needs to be shot down.
I'm hearing the Howes not been backed excuses popping up. Lol he's had hundreds of millions and kept our best players.
He kept Trippier & Almiron despite offers. He's also part of the management structure that ended up selling Minteh/Anderson and "snapping up" Odysseas, Osula and Kelly. He's at least partly to blame for the stagnation.
When he first arrived he had more about him. It appears to me that he's uninspiring and just doesn't really care that much. Perhaps I'm wrong, but he's becoming more and more dull. It's like he's trying to prove a point in some kind of sulk about signings. The entire mood around him is flat
We covered all of this before. To be successful you have to maintain the spending. We haven’t. The blame for that is in the rules.
That's a separate debate. The rules are certainly an issue, but Howe has been backed as much as possible. Not every manager gets hundreds of millions in 3 years without having to sell a key player. Saying he hasn't been backed is just an excuse.
Can we blame PSR for our players looking exhausted? For being insanely easy to pass through? Not pressing like we used too? Everyone we come up against looks so much fitter than us.
Like I said before we’ve already discussed this. Saying he’s had hundreds of millions over 3 years suggests constant consistent backing which is what you need to be successful and what he hasn’t had because of psr. He may have been backed recently as much as possible but due to psr that hasn’t been much recently so not the consistent spending you need to be at the top. Everyone complaining about too many long in the tooth players here who need replacing. If we were able to spend they would have been replaced.
