This is a problem we have every season due to lack of depth in our squad, a handful of key players make a massive difference...

We miss him when he’s not there and he’s often pilloried when he is there.

However, next season I’m not sure he should be first choice if the preferred formation is 4-2-3-1. I like that Field-Varane-Morgan midfield and we tend to get shown up when we play all the fancy midgets away from home but if he wants to play that formation it should be Varane and Morgan IMO.

Great option to come into that midfield, when we play three or as centre-half but when he plays with Varane and nobody else in there it’s painful to watch.

Such utterly bad news. He is the strongest character at the club in terms of role model now, imo. We completely missed him yesterday. Without him, the full backs struggled to find someone to pass to when wingers were marked or not in a good position. That's what he does when he plays a more defensive midfield role.

When he attacks, I actually think he's great. I wish we'd push him up to attacking midfield more often. He knows where to be and often gets in good positions, creates chances and occasionally scores if allowed to push up.

Although he's definitely earned his 'Field the Shield' nickname I agree I like him pushed forward, he's got that knack of getting into good goal scoring positions, just the finishing occasionally lacks. Ultimately Morgan and Varane might be the future but at the moment Field has consistency over both.

I like Field a lot, but he's not a number 8 - all his instincts are defensive. Varane - who's a better player all round in my opinion - should play the more attacking role, with Field holding. Whilst Field is missing, though, I'd be happy to see Varane as the number 6 and Morgan further forward. Between the three of them, with Colback as cover, we are strong in midfield, though.

    Out for 6-9 weeks...

QPR midfielder Field could miss rest of the season
    By West London Sport 04/03/2025

QPR midfielder Sam Field looks likely to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

Field suffered the injury in a challenge from Connor Ogilvie during Rangers’ recent defeat at Portsmouth.

Head coach Marti Cifuentes subsequently admitted that Field, 26, was expected to be out for a lengthy period.

Rangers now believe he will be sidelined for at least six weeks but potentially as many as nine.

Jake Clarke-Salter is also out with a long-term injury, having had hip surgery.

JCS being injured is now just a footnote of any other article.

That's too bad as I consider him a valuable member of our squad, consistently scoring key goals too. Was not aware of the injury, was the challenge a "nasty" one or just one of those things, was the Pompey player yellow carded? Not sure as to the nature of the ankle injury but from from personal experience, ligament or Achilles damage can take considerable time to mend.
