Has to be said that West Ham interviewed him last summer to take over from Moyes and decided against it. I don't know the ins and outs of why, but you could frame it easily as "if he's not good enough for West Ham, why would he be good enough for Man U"? He might be a decent coach, but maybe he's lacking the experience to pull things round now. Maybe he's too dogmatic to change when he doesn't have the players to play how he wants? Maybe he was never tested in Portugal as he had a decent team there in a relatively weak league, like Michael Beale at Rangers? So far there been no improvement since Ten Hag was sacked, arguably they've gone a bit back over and Amads' brilliance papered over the cracks.
I think Amorim is a top coach but he's made some errors for me in his time at Man Utd. He's extremely wedded to his system but he doesn't have the players for it so he needs to adapt but he won't, even if it's just until the end of the season when he can have a clear out and sign suitable players. I don't think they have a centre back who can play wide in a 3, I don't think they have a midfielder who can control a game from a 2 man midfield, they signed Dorgu but their other 'wing backs' aren't suitable for the position, they don't have enough creativity in the 10 positions and I don't think they have a striker. So, in my opinion, he should be playing a system that gets the best out of these players until he has the players for his preferred way of playing. The problems at Man Utd run much deeper than him.
Aye, he seems intent on the 3 at the back. Should have given himself a couple of windows to get the right players in to play it. Good point about the little magician as well, pulled them out of the clarts a few times. Even going back to the Portuguese link, they've had the best Portugese gaffer in the business in Mourinho and he called it a **** show way back and he is a very strong character. It only interests me because of how much they won with Fergie when I was growing up. Him and David Gill were on the same page, kids coming through their academy etc. They had the lot. Mad how far they have fallen. (Relatively speaking of course).
I'm sure he'll fill in his time somehow ... ... https://bookingsurgery.com/ads/plas...lEShaLiOToSLzrNOQjFk-4D9sWljv8eEaAmvGEALw_wcB
I sent that to a mag I work with (in newcastle). Havent had a reply yet, I think there's could be a problem with the interweb or something over that way.
Maybe I should've said he's on his way to being one. Did a superb job at Sporting. Needs to learn to adapt though and Man Utd is a club that won't give him time to learn
Not being rude to the man but it looks like he went to a club totally unsuited to him simply for the pay off.
They chassed Ashowrth for months and he wanted Southgate, but went for Amorim as Berada wanted him and they binned of Ashworth. Southgate would have complimented their squad more and would have potentially got the most out of problem child rashford. Instead theyve got amorim and they dont remotely have the squad to play 3-4-3, they've basically employed a plumber when they need a spark. They need to many ins and out for this to be addressed in the summer. The goalkeeper is suss They dont have one fullback Not on centre half who would get in a top 6 side No 10s capable of playing a double 10 No box to box centre mids No prolific striker It's not they dont spend, its just so badly spent, yes the glazers siphon off the cash but managers get backed theyve just got no grand plan, philosphy or identity anymore.
