Local radio presenter from decades gone by, Tim Jibson, has died. In 2011, just after I left uni, I emailed him asking if I could get some experience in the media and radio industry and help him out with anything he needed. He took a chance on me and I worked with him for around six months. Very grateful for that opportunity as it helped me land my first job in marketing. 15 years on and I’m now in London working for BBC 6 Music and Radio 2. Very nice guy.
Actor who starred as Steve Ross in the 1970s children’s TV series Follyfoot and later went on to work in radio drama Steve Hodson, who has died aged 77, made his name in one of the most cherished children’s television series of the 1970s, Follyfoot, which was inspired by the 1963 Monica Dickens novel Cobbler’s Dream, about three young people working at a horse rescue centre. The teatime drama brought Hodson a legion of young admirers for his performance as Steve Ross, but also attracted many grown-up viewers over 39 episodes and three series from 1971 to 1973, with audiences of up to 14 million. It was sold on to 20 countries and won the 1972 Harlequin award for best children’s programme from the Society of Film and Television Arts (now Bafta).
Gene Hackman dead at 95: Iconic actor and wife Betsy Arakawa are found dead with their dog at Santa Fe home
My favourite actor; we'll never know now if he ever played with his toes in Poughkeepsie? RIP Popeye Doyle
Never knew he was a double Oscar winner, knew he'd got one for Popeye Doyle but not the other one. His wife was early 60's, thought she was nearer his age. R.I.P. to them both.
Chris Hughes, 77, on Eggheads for 20 years. One of only 7 people to win Mastermind and Brain Of Britain. Was always entertaining.
Unfortunately they were the one band of the late 70's early 80's that I really wanted to see - but never did. Saddened by this news Also Gutted when Weller disbanded the Jam and formed the Style Council
Apparently Gene Hackman and his missus had been dead for nine days before they were found. Data from his pacemaker showed last activity etc.
