The rumours and players agents appear to be heating up already, getting ready for the rats to abandon the sinking ship. (Said tongue in cheek) Who I think will leave, rumoured to leave already. 1. Ramsdale - Rumoured to have a release clause, linked to Chelsea’s recently or a return to Bournemouth. Pretty sure we’ll get our money back on him at least £20 - £25 million 2. KWP - Declined several contract offers. Will leave on a free 3. Dibling - Weekly links to Spurs, Villa, Man Utd, Dortmund etc. 2 years left on his contract, no sign of extending. The more clubs involved, the more we can hopefully get a bigger fee. If rumours are true that could be anywhere between £40 - £55 million. 4.THB - Not had a great season by any standards, but since changing agents recently, rumours are rife. If they are to be believed he’s being linked to Spurs, Villa, West Ham, Man Utd and Palace in recent days. No smoke without fire, so I would say he wants out. Disappoints me this one, as he hasn’t stepped up as expected, and has been part of the problem this season. But again the more clubs involved the better fee we can get. Anything over the £20 million paid after the season he has had, would be ok. Those are the 4 I think are nailed on to go. And below are the ones I think are more than likely to leave. 1. Aribo - Links to Turkey and rumours of not wanting another season in the championship 2. Bednarek - Linked to Roma in last window, think he will leave to a European team this summer 3. ABK - Year left on contract, will get whatever we can for him 4. Tall Paul - Same as ABK 5. Lumley / Lallana - End of Contract 6. Lesley / Gronbaek - End of Loan 7. Downes - I don’t feel he really ever truly wanted to be here, so I think will push for a move. 8. Sulemana - Think we will look to cash in as 2 years remaining on contract 9. Archer - Big links to Leeds in the winter, and I think they’ll be back in for him in the summer. Rumours were that he wanted to go there. 10. Armstrong - May feel that a change of scenery will benefit him? The interesting one is Fernandes. Couple of articles recently about his life at Southampton etc, and he is one player who doesn’t look like he has given up. Will be 4 years remaining on his contract this summer, so we wouldn’t sell cheap. I really hope he stays. That’s 16 players there, I’m not saying they will all leave, but I expect it to be double figures, and I think it will be closer to the 16 if Jurić stays in charge as it’s been written that he believes there are only 5-6 players he feels he could work with moving forward. We need a big clear out. and get what we can for some of these players who have mostly disappointed this season.
I think THB will have interest, and he'll be keen to leave, but we won't sell for a loss and I can't see anyone paying £20m+. Not sure how that will play out. As for Downes, he definitely did want to come here in the Summer. He had the option of us or Ipswich and chose us - but he did want out in January. I imagine ipswich will still want him in the summer but will they pay £15m+ and would we sell to a promotion rival?
Going to ignore those out of contract as I don't think any will re-sign but outside of that the only definites for me are: Ramsdale Dibling Fernandes Onuachu Then you've got a bunch who would probably like to go but will depend on whether anyone can stump up the fee and/or match wages: THB Downes Aribo Sulemana ABK Outside of that I think the majority will stay unless we get a really good offer unexpectedly. If for arguments sake all the above left that leave us roughly with a squad of: GK - Macca, Bazunu RB - Bree, Sugawara CB - Bedders, Edwards, Stephens, Wood LB - Manning, Wellington CM/DM - Charles, Smallbone AM/wingers - Edozie, Fraser, struggling here? ST - Armstrong, Archer, Close Bolded areas which need most attention, but with a bit of money spent that's a decent championship squad. Surely I must be missing some in the AM/Winger positions?
I think ABK and Aribo will definitely go as they have a year left on their contract, so we will want some kind of transfer fee.
Aribo is on quite high a wage I believe though? Remains to be seen whether clubs will be willing to match that and if not whether he's willing to take a paycut.
Happy if all these leave, with the exception of Dibling. A season running rings around Championship defenders would set him up for life. The crucial thing is for Spors and the new manager to spend the incoming funds effectively.
I agree with this in the current moment but I also think that if we make some management changes before the end of the season and can get some morale and pride back we maybe able to minimise the amount of players wanting to leave (the good ones anyway). I think most would accept that Dibbling is off and THB looks like he is too but I have high hopes for Edwards who I think next season could be huge for us. My only fear with him is if he is looking at the **** show we have become he might want out too. Fernandes we should move heaven and earth to keep but the rest I’m not fussed about. Do what we’ve historically been good at and give the youngsters a go. EDIT: Oh and buy a striker!
Thought we had? Is he only on loan? If that's the case then I think he'll probably go but if he does stay I'd hope it's as a striker.
I agree that if either Chelsea or Bmouth want Ramsdale, then they'd get him. But I suppose that hinges on Kepa. Might Bmouth want to sign him permanently? Might Chelsea want to give him another chance? There's also a possibility that Maresca might not consider Ramsdale as being good enough with the ball at his feet. (He's not bad, but he's not exceptional.) But even outside of those two, there would also be the three promoted clubs (whoever they might be). He's had two spells at Sheff Utd, so might be open to a third. And maybe even the likes of Man Utd and West Ham might be interested.
It seems like there's some sort of conditional obligation attached, but there were mixed stories about exactly how it works. I'm still not sure even now.
