Sorry about my cryptic message but I was watching the match last night and thought I'd pay a small visit as I know you're all good guys.
I'm trying to stay off social media for a while as it's not really a safe place at the moment (especially for guys with views like mine) but I just want you to know you are all in my thoughts, stay safe :police:
Happy St David's Day all <hug>

Never regarded this as "social media" but I suppose it is in some ways. <ok>

I don't do any of the other stuff like Twitter (or whatever it's called now), Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and the rest of them.

People who stare at their phones when walking along oblivious to other people and traffic do my head in. <grr>

I use facebook, but only as its a means of keeping in touch with friends and family abroad. Very rarely post though. Once or twice a month maybe. Commented today on a cousin's post celebrating St David's Day. He lives in Oz.
Can't stand when people post photos of their dinner, or 100 holiday photo's.

I could not agree more. I was simply using the phrase that she herself said she felt most flattered by.

I appreciated that Clingo :emoticon-0148-yes: - it is just that I have never liked the moniker the music press bestowed on her - did anyone call Aretha Franklin the best brown soul singer:emoticon-0138-think?

    Both were sensational!

Different times and different cultures wherein soul music (the real soul and not Tamla) was considered by the musicians themselves as "black" music. Like you, I didn't like the distinction then or now but as I said earlier, the terms were aired by the protagonists themselves.

And yes, I'm afraid Aretha had on numerous occasions, and by a variety of ethnic groups, been labelled "the best black singer of her time".

I have always loved soul music of the sixties and played it for many years.. I've also read a huge amount about the prejudices on show from small pockets of all cultures. So perhaps the times weren't as different to now.

Totally admire and support your moral standpoint. <applause>

Anyone on here like the Bob Seger band?
A singer in a local pub (on holiday in Fuengirola) belted out ‘Old Time Rock’n’roll’ which made me reminisce……

Not the usual stuff we have on here but it takes all sorts. Right?

Having a quiet morning so indulged in a guilty pleasure on Alexa.

The Carpenters - Goodbye to Love

Such a perfect voice, lost to the world far too young. You can listen to and understand every word she sings. Unlike the mindless house/garage/garbage/rap/crap/dance/trance that is churned out today. And I love the guitar solo, Tony Peluso? I think. He said it was the first power ballad guitar solo.

At first John Peel said he hated it but as he mellowed he warmed to the song.

    Well said Bluey.

Roger Daltry said this week that tech has taken away the heart of music. In fact this has been happening for decades. AI has also stripped away the value of composing.

I much prefer real music to the plastic pop churned out nowadays. I’ve just got myself tickets for The Scratch (you may not have heard of them, but check them out) and Stiff Little Fingers. No auto tune or manufactured backing tracks at these gigs. Just pure unadulterated real live music.

No need to call it a "guilty pleasure" mate. There was musical talent in abundance with those two young people. Of course, as well as having a great voice, Karen was a reasonable drummist too.

Anyway, well done you for liking what you like. Sounds like you're having a good day so I hope it carries on for you. Enjoy!

The only thing I would say though is that in every decade since the 50's, there has been plastic, manufactured music dominating the world of popular music.
The good news is however, despite all of that plasicness, true musicianship, talent and originality has survived and prospered.

The day continues. Just been to feed the swans on a local pond.

No, not malnourished Jacks. We actually have a pair of friendly (as long as you feed them) swans within half a mile of us.

The female has returned every year for 5 years at least and had cygnets in 4 of those years. Her male and last year's surving cygnets (3 out of 5) all disappeared last autumn. He was a big, aggressive bird (I know a few women like that) so very unlikely a fox took him. No other natural predators apart from man.

Anyway Momma Swan has spent the winter on dating apps, singles bars and speed dating and returned with a young, only 2 years old I think, male. One is a cradle snatcher and the other a toy boy. Unlikely to breed this year but hopeful for 2026.
