    5-4 it wasn't !!
Where shall I start ? - There's got to be only one real contender for this 'award' -
    1. Whalley ..... he's the Accrington scorer- which keeps Tranmere in even more trouble than Gills.
    2. The shirt on Hawkins' back -- for it's durability !
    3. The Rainham End corner flag....for being quicker to close down the ball than some Gills players.

It was a 'toss-up' whether I stayed at home to watch Barcelona v Athletico Madrid, or The Gills...... Obviously I got it wrong - even if I didn't expect a repeat of what happened in the last February fixture 13 years ago... ((( ask brb - he's still having nightmares at missing the game. )))

I said, in the Carlisle 'star' player thread, that Gills have returned to putting in some half reasonable 'effort' - but that the players - especially the forwards, don't have enough quality to score enough goals to challenge the top places in the division.......

......do the players have enough goals in them to avoid relegation ? - I'm sure that Gills have plenty of ' whalleys.' in the squad ?

Last night was painful.. Gills were painful to watch... They were too slow...They played Sideways, Backwards, Sideways, Sideways, Backwards, Sideways, Sideways - and eventually sending me....round-the-bend - before : Hoofball.

OK- perhaps I'm being a little unkind... Plenty of you will say that in the 2nd half, Gills had several attempts - which either were well saved - blocked - hit the bar, or somehow didn't go in.... and that, on another day we'd have scored 3 or 4...... (( and not celebrating wildly just because '' we scored a goal ! ))..... so, I'll concede to Gills being slightly unlucky........ BUT -

Fleetwood's success wasn't all about luck... When they had the ball, they seemed to have so much more time and space (( where have I heard that before - countless times this season. ))....perhaps explains why Gills have already lost 11 games at Home -- the opposition haven't just been 'lucky' !
Fleetwood (( or insert 10 other team names )), didn't have to work very hard when they decided to venture into Gills half... They moved the ball neatly - and waited for The Gills players to 'stand-off' and create much space....I actually told my sons, next to me, that their 2nd goalscorer was going to take a shot (and score), several seconds before even he had decided to shoot !!! ..

I can accept ' bad luck' - when the ball just won't go in the net - If the opposition goalkeeper plays a 'blinder' or defenders block shots on the line etc - even if attacks are broken-down on the edge of the penalty area etc - trying and failing - that's got to be better than wasting so much time with Sideways, Sideways, Backwards etc - that's never going to worry the opposition.......

.......otherwise I could be wasting my time better, by watching a boring 4-4 draw !

I watched it much against my better judgment. WTF was Coleman up to taking off the three most prominent players likely to score?
All Hawkins had to do was be in the box for the cross, fit or not fit. He is 6 foot 6. How could he even think that taking Hutton off after three nutmegs and three brilliant crosses 5 minutes beforehand for Dack. Who certainly does not have Huttons pace or ability for long throws. Who then went on to just pass the ball and ran away. Then Clarke for Gbode????????
We lost all momentum and any chance of an equaliser. What it did do was give Fleetwood possession and almost a chance to score two more goals????
Coleman has openly admitted he does not know who are the best players or what is his strongest team.
But when you are on top in a situation trying to equalise, NO WAY should he have made three changes.
Is he being paid to finish us off??????
Having managed at a much lower level than Div 2 ( Local Football ) I learned my lesson never to make multiple subs in one go it will always disrupt the team until they have settled. And 15 minutes from the end there was no chance for them to settle into a routine.
We are lucky that Tranmere lost again. But our luck will run out

I felt watching the game last night that Fleetwood had several gears and when they moved to over-drive we couldn't handle them, they battered us. Once in the lead it was just sit back in cruise control. Sometimes with the exception of one of their goals, we just didn't have enough bodies in the box. When we lost the ball we were too slow in our momentum to cover back, we were lacking any sort of pace.

We were unlucky at times, but I could see clearly why one team is pushing for play-offs and one isn't.

I don't think I'm ever going to get my head around team selections. To me it looks like favourites and out of favour, I'm not going to list them, because it's just my subjective opinion and who am I to tell the manager who to pick, but I work on a logical thought basis in life decisions and the team selections are making no logical sense to me...

Coleman continues to baffle all. The starting lineup was rather baffling with Nevitt being given a "free role" although I suppose it worked for 39 minutes as we miraculously took the lead from a very good header from Nevitt. After that though the team completely fell apart for the remainder of the first half. Second half resembled a lot of games this season where we huffed and puffed but I never believed we would score a second goal, and that's despite the fact we hit the bar and had one cleared off the line. I found Nevitt receiving the ball on the 6 yard line to then turn his back to goal and pass to a very worse than average Armani Little even more bizarre. Coleman then takes our outlets of Clark & Hutton off to put square pegs in round-holes in Nolan & Clarke at wing-back, although from what I could see Clarke looks like was asked to play as an orthodox right back for most of it. Killed all momentum we may have had, and then 6 minutes to go we'll take our focal point that we've been hoofing to off and we'll replace him with a scrawny kid on loan from Chelsea. Absolutely mind-blowing change. Whoever decided to give Little the Man of the Match award clearly had too much of the free booze that comes with sponsoring the game. He continues to be poor and as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we've massively shot ourselves in the foot by giving him the armband as we're accepting his continued poor form and thinking that's right to hold him above the rest.

John Coleman has the worst start by any Gillingham FC permanent manager ever. 0 wins from his first 9 games and only 5 points acquired. Even Adrian Pennock who has the worst win percentage of any Gillingham permanent manager even managed to obtain a win and more points in his opening games. Coleman's substitutions have actively lost us points in his nearly two months in charge and we're not better for his introduction thus far. I'm not one for looking to make managerial changes every five minutes. We're still the victims of sacking Neil Harris in 2023 as its been a continued decline since, but I'm not at all convinced Coleman is the man to take us forward into next season right now.

    1. Nevitt (actually scored so thats a miracle)
    2. M. Clark

Tbph mate, I should have put Nevitt in at number two on my selections but I'm so p'd off with these selections that I just couldn't. So we would have had two the same, but a different way arround.

Coleman hasn't got a clue what is his best team and best formation.
Saturday now becomes a massive game at home to Morecombe. Lose and be only 6 points above the relegation 2. If we can win be 12 points and should be safe.
Apart from Smith the new players brought in in January look worse than normal team

We are being left with more questions than answers at the moment and I don't understand what his ploy is. Its something I saw Accrington fans mention previously but why does he feel the need to mention he's managed over 1200 games so often. Why does he keep saying he's a fan too and wants to see exciting football but then doesn't make any positive changes during games? What's happened with some of our squad? Euan Williams was player of the month for November, what's happened with him? Jonny Williams was the only one that tried in that last game under Bonner, only been seen for 2 minutes as a sub against Grimsby since, why? Why is he making our top scorer a bit part player as a wing back? What has happened to Ethan Coleman? Is Jacob Wakeling still alive? Will Conor Masterson ever be fit again? Why has Ogie disappeared from the squad for the last few games?

There are so many questions that we don't have answers for and I'm left banging my head against a brick wall because we've actually got worse since Bonner was sacked. How is that even possible?
