⚠️ ATTENTION | FIFA will review the introduction of 4 groundbreaking rules to reshape football starting on March 1st: ▶️OFFSIDE RULE PROPOSED BY ARSENE WENGER: A player will be considered offside if their entire body crosses the last defender's line. This means offside decisions based on a few millimeters will no longer be penalized. ▶️REFEREE DECISIONS WILL BE EXPLAINED THROUGH MICROPHONES TO THE ENTIRE STADIUM: After consulting VAR, referees will explain their decision via a microphone to all spectators present in the stadium. ▶️THE CONSULTATION SYSTEM: Each coach will be allowed to request a limited number of VAR checks during the match to review a controversial action. ▶️ REFEREES CAN STOP THE CLOCK: Referees will be able to stop the clock to assess a situation or in case of a severe injury. The goal is to eliminate time-wasting and prioritize actual playing time. If these rules are APPROVED, they will be implemented on July 1, 2025. HUGE!
If that's true then well done Wenger. I could get excited and be called offside if my dick was longer than the other guys under the current rules
I think the Wenger rule may give too much advantage to attackers, personally. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. It also does nothing to solve the "one millimetre offside" issue, they will just be measuring from the back of the attacker rather than the front now...
Agree. The offside line has just been moved, not eliminated. I wonder how many test games they did on this. They should have left the offside law as it is, gave the decision back to the lines man, and then only over-ruled errors if they were so far off that the Wenger rule would apply.
Happy with the stop clock for injuries and time wasting. No idea why the clock carries on when the game has stopped.
Wenger offside one is stupid/****e.... basically does away with offside to a certain extent, far to much....dont know what the answer is mind, but as some above have mentioned the mm lime has just moved Good idea re stopping the clock.... however is there not already effectively the same thing available now when the injury time is meant to be assessed as the game goes on by 4th official then added on....they cant manage this effectively now so i strongly suspect they wont manage it this way. Perfect example is the huge amounts of time added on in international tournaments & start of deason......then now just doesn't happen. For one season.....rather than coming up with new rules, FIFA needs to concentrate on enforcing the rules they already have.....then go from there
At last, gets rid of the ridiculous big feet Solanke offside rule. I've always said, you should be deemed offside if there's clear daylight between the attacker and the last defender.
I'm sure that's what it used to be. we will probably never get rid of controversy in football but these amendments sound like a step in the right direction.
I would prefer it if the referees simply go by the present rules and really clamp down on all the pulling and pushing etc instead of trying to decide if it was enough to cause the player to fall.
The wenger rule changes nothing, instead of checking if they’re just past the man they’re checking if his heel is still in line also gives far too much leeway to attacker
Gives an advantage to the attacker, should increase the amount of goals and make the game more attractive. I'm all for it.
Are they just too precise with the current interpretation of offside? If it's taking too long - more than 20 seconds - to decide then just give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker and say 'onside'.
Very sensible changes, I've been banging on about limiting the number of VAR calls to a certain number for each coach. Don't know why it hasn't been implimented sooner after all the ridiculous delays. Also the offside rule change is a must, advantage should always go to the attacker IMO.
Pretty sure it used to be offside if there was daylight between the striker and the defender, depending on how this potential new rule is interpreted it should be much easier and quicker to call an offside decision.
Not a fan of VAR but it works. It's the incompetent operators that don't implement it correctly or somehow try to favour the "bigger" teams. Time wasting. It's going to end up like the American games and last a few hours. Fk that I want my beer. Book players or send players off. That stops it. Just have the balls to do it. How many goalies have you seen booked for fkn about with goal kicks? How many have you seen sent off? I bet it's not 1. The offside one i will need to ponder a tad more.
