I said on the other thread she wasn’t qualified to apply so was never an option. You have to have your main home or work in the area for the last 12 months.
Seems a decent bloke Whether he’s the right candidate to do the job it is, Chairing leadership Boards and and negotiating successfully on behalf of us all with the likes of Andy Burnham etc I guess we can all decide when we see his manifesto and what he says at the hustings. https://www.hullandeastyorkshire.gov.uk/mayor#:~:text=The role of the mayor is to work alongside local,Mayors chair the combined authority.
He is a nice kid But I went tonight and he’s out of his depth he’s not articulate Whether he will be able to grasp complicated council stuff I doubt Is he a puppet for someone else ? Maybe farage was very good He’s a showman
The area is in dire need. Political allegiances aside, we need someone with the acumen to be able to help maximise the area's potential. Slim pickings no doubt - but voting for an ex boxer, nice lad, appears to be chucking this chance on a bin fire.
Watched some of the live feed. I don't find the other candidates particularly articulate or dynamic. Campbell would be respected as a regional ambassador/metro mayor, obviously council staff would need to support him closely on budgets and investment etc, the old legacy parties will underestimate his appeal.
Nationally, if he was elected, I think we’d be a laughing stock mate. It’s not a celebrity contest; it’s serious stuff that could affect the area for a generation. It’s not the sort of job where you just need to turn up, smile and wave. Apart from being famous for boxing, what sort of qualification or experience does he have for this job? If he doesn't have that acumen, then he is at the behest of council advisors and Lord knows who else. I agree with you about the other candidates and I am deeply unimpressed by what I have seen thus far.
Agree with the above and the announcement wasn't even worthy of a mention on the main BBC Look North News this morning. If he could appointment someone like Michelle Dewberry as his assistant his nomination might hold a bit more credibility. As it stands I don't think any of the candidates will capture the publics imagination and a role which has been so influential in attracting Government cash in other areas seems to have been treated with disrespect around here. Which is probably why it has taken so long to appoint a regional mayor in the first place
I do think if they’d planned ahead and got dewberry to be living here in some form then she would have a good chance of winning.
Sorry, but a wasted opportunity for Reform. Nice lad, great boxer, good ambassador, etc. But he's simply not cut out for, nor got the experience and acumen for such a role. It's a shame imo. Hopefully he both still gets it and proves me badly wrong, but I just don't see those 2 things happening.
