I recall him being pretty lukewarm on the idea of getting in a striker in January. Had he really wanted one I would have expected him to have pushed harder in interviews. Here's Arsenal's record of Prem finishes under Arteta; 2019-20 finished 8th ... 43 points behind Liverpool 2020-21 finished 8th ... 35 points behind Man City 2021-22 finished 5th ... 24 points behind Man City 2022-23 finished 2nd .... 5 points behind Man City 2023-24 finished 2nd .... 2 points behind Man City 2024-25 finished 2nd ...10 points behind Liverpool (11 games still to play) Granted the 10 point gap behind Liverpool this season is an estimate. But I think I'm being generous. It is more likely I think that Arsenal could finish 15 to 20 points behind Liverpool. Because the Gunners will draw or lose another 3 or 4 games, because they don't have a striker. Arsenal should have won the Prem in 2024, but they choked. They choked in 2023 as well. Now their challenge against Liverpool is over, and we aren't out of February yet. There is even a chance Arsenal might let 2nd place slip this season, because they don't have a striker. In my opinion Arsenal have been slipping backwards compared to the Title winning team for the second straight season, arguably the third. Arteta is undoubtedly a very talented manager. But he does not (in my view) have what it takes to make Arsenal the Champions of England. And that should be the requirement for a manager in his 6th season at the Club. Not a top 4 finish. Not Champion's League qualification. Slot is going to make Liverpool Champions in his first season in English football.
That used to be the case when I lived here and Jock Stein was Celtic manager, but he wouldn’t stand for the sectarian songs. Probably different now that Celtic fans are just as bad. Since I only come to one game a year I can’t say for sure.
I'd swerve the auld firm in your case then. I have ticked about 23 grounds up your way, and adopted Dundee as 'my' team.
I only chose them to meet an old friend who supports the huns. And he couldn’t make it because of a family bereavement.
This day in 2000 we beat Sheffield United at The Valley in front of 19,200 supporters. Johnny Robinson scored the game's only goal.
Great player for us. Gave 100% every week. To think he only cost £75,000 from Brighton, as the replacement for Robert Lee.
Well done to Fulham. That prize tit Gary Lineker just called the Fulham v Crystal Palace QF a “South West London derby”.
Look away now @lardiman I read earlier than Villa’s wage bill is now 96% of their turnover You’ve got to question the morality of foreign managers like Unai Emery. He’s literally gambling the future of the club for a piece of silverware.
Other than City, this is the hardest game palice could get. Still very concerned with them being in the 1/4's
