Has anyone seen or is there any plans knocking about as to what it is gonna look like, usually someone releases expected drawings as to how it will look
I remember some fantasist posting that the Dell people had asked for feasibility studies regarding SOL upgrades, Sheepfolds, moving the club shop, changing the badge, concerts at the SOL, improved hospitality, etc. All absolute nonsense of course. However there was also talk of engaging the Council, transport companies, etc to seriously upgrade St Peter’s Metro station. That’s a disgrace for home and away supporters at the moment, it really needs to be addressed as does the frequency of metros and trains. It would also help if work on the Monorail proceeded much quicker than it currently is
The future isn’t half bright and there’s more than one or two similarities to their plans and what is happening.
Yes, they sent me a load before they started groundworks kicking in nearly 2 years ago now like but it shows what it’ll look like once the planters etc are in. I’ll see if I can dig them out when I’m at my laptop later
One of the bigger possible 'projects' was expanding the facilities at the AOL, involving the University and building a mini-SOL. The stadium would be 5/8 thousand capacity to be used by the 'reserves', the women's team, kids teams, the Uni, concerts, etc. It was nothing more than one of dozens of 'possibles' but the idea was that the Uni would become closer to the club, more 'supporters' would be attracted to SAFC who'd spread the word when they returned home. The 'reserve' teams would have a home as would the women's team. All 'pie in the sky' but who knows, it could've happened and there'd be a great little stadium for gigs, etc.
Wonder where the mini SOL would have been, had enough trouble getting planning permission for the Academy as it is.
It never went further than 'pie in the sky' tbh. The dog track was mentioned, Sheepfolds, the docks, all kinds of suggestions ... ... my favourite was at Nissan but that really would've been complicated
Cheers mate, all quite interesting thinking what could be done. I don't know much about football in the USA but they do seem to like Universities to be involved with clubs ... ... Sunderland Uni seems to have quite a few overseas students so it could get our name better known.
