The 'lived experience's comment was primarily a joke (hence emoji).
    What am I suggesting?!?
    What are "those things"??
Fwiw, I don't read the Daily Mail (in any guise). I agree, from what I've seen of it, it has become largely an echo chamber.

Like most words, it was fashionable (again) about a decade ago during the cultural shift from the noughties, then became a term of derision and now is largely used by middle-aged and elderly men shouting into space, angry at change that they can't influence anymore... Never heard my children (early-mid 20s) use it.

For what it's worth, I have no understanding/comprehension of those who think they're born the wrong gender/race osv., but **** it, it doesn't affect me and I don't give a ****, so welcome to do what they want.

Perhaps it was an age thing but I thought the first couple of series of Mrs Brown's Boys wasn't bad, since then though it's been utter crap.

I guess the same as if I was to watch back Little Britain today - that's something that's been cancelled, right?

It was cancelled because it ran it's course. Matt Lucas and David Williams haven't been cancelled.

Let's be honest, 'wokeness' isn't really a thing here. There's parts of it that maybe apply, but quite often its an old man shouts at cloud scenario.

Like most of these things, it looks more prevelant because of social media and the fact that in America there are major problems with both wokeness and far rightness simply because Americans are like a caricature of normality.

Not blacking up and acting offensive is obviously a clearly idiotic thing to do (and want to do) however white women not being aloud to braid their hair seems like a pointless and strange demand.

Similarly, deciding that you'd like to be referred to as he/she/they- all power to you, i dont care at all. But I don't think it's far right to not want anyone with the biological advantage that comes with being male to compete in women's sports.

There's of course other arguments to be had regarding DEI policies bleeding into recruitment strategies but in not getting into that particular topic.

I didn’t think they were bad either. They were blood awful.

You mean what the vast majority of people have done all their lives without being told to do it ? Or being told they have wicked thoughts , so need training !!
Some do granted but it’s not anywhere near as prevalent as you think , or the media and those in some form of people training making money out of ‘suggested ‘ faults, make us all believe . I’m far from perfect but I’m damned if someone is going to tell me how to think and what to think , otherwise I’m not me .

Not really, he is fully aware of where he gets his news from, and has no real desire to source it alternatively. That's his prerogative. He's just not as into politics as he used to be. And from a Tory perspective I can't really blame him, or anyone else.

Largely used by middle aged white folk is it ? Read my previous post , you see it’s generalisations like that , that triggers the frustration of my age group when being lectured about our ‘faults ‘ which those in their utopia feel they have the right to project . They are based on assumptions , our age group has predominantly taken total responsibility for all we’ve done or do.

Sure, but many Autistic people experience binary thinking and struggles with identity, so would you feel comfortable making them feel 'less' comfortable if that situation arose?

At least you are associating these conditions with mental illness.

Most probably like you, I'm not qualified to diagnose or treat mental illness. I treat everyone with respect until they indicate they don't deserve it.

I wouldn't suggest that Autism was a mental illness but I get your point.

Lived experience? I would suggest there is a good few of us on here who have lived, lived a full life. And just when you think nothing else can surprise you, with a rueful shake of the head you utter the immortal phrase. Thats just bonkers.

The history I learned as a kid is now being challenged. But that is just what it is, the past. And now no longer the preserve of the victor. But joyous news. Atlas publishers must be feeling a bit flush nowadays and can afford different coloured inks compared to the school copy that was my old mans. Or maybe they just had a hundred gallon or two of pink paint they wanted to use up.

What the future holds forty years hence for your values, your lived experience, will one day be here for you too.

So are you really saying you and your family at the time didnt titter at all at any of those ‘ comedies’ of the time ? I really find it hard to believe , I definitely remember finding the programme funny to some extent but some of the expressions I didn’t . I’m not accusing you but there’s an awful lot of hypocrisy at times from posters who’ve never laughed at anything sexist , racist , mysoginist so they can pile on those who are honest about it and then presumably feel good about themselves . If that’s not true then we have the most perfect group of people on the planet here . I’m so glad I am part of their ‘ family.

From the age of 5 I was trained about right, wrong and wickedness. That was backed up by the occasional physical punishment by an adult.

Why do you presume to know what I think?

All the training I received at work was to improve the service we provided both externally and internally. A small part of that training was about treating people with respect but boiled down to common decency. Unfortunately some people needed a reminder. Although they usually applied the lack of respect to all ages, genders and races.

I worked for a public body that some would consider extremely woke.

    I don't recognise the world you're suggesting.

Sorry have you read my post properly I’m pretty sure my post is almost a mirror of yours . I’m talking about the current trend in Universities to train people about unconscious bias ,as an example to employ people to manage diversity etc , some of this is Govt managed to create another tier of jobs , but the point is if I do as you do we don’t need it to the extent it has grown . I got belted for bad manners , any show of disrespect and other times for f*** all , so as I say I don’t need young people lecturing me on what they perceive are ‘old peoples’ terrible thoughts and behaviour .

Actually I’ve got sucked in to a topic that really is never ending and difficult to fully discuss on a forum . It creates spaces for people either to get angry , enjoy conflict , relieve mental boredom and the worst pigeon hole people they don’t really know , leaving a potentially false perception of that person .

The nail on the head, comedies of the time. The quote marks you used gives them a damnation of sorts. They were just what they were. Comedies. I heard words, phrases, watched attitudes, yes, I may say, I learned from them. I cannot un-hear, or un-see those things. Have I repeated any of those things? So long ago I cannot remember. I was born in Hull, went to school in Hull, sailed from Hull and up until the day I stepped off a plane in Nigeria, the number of people I personally knew who were not as white as me could be counted on my fingers. That was the day I learned that, in fact, I was not a racist. Or put another way, on a scale of 1 - 10, my views as opposed to the good 'ol southern boys, was a minus 647.

Yep, welcome to do what they want (usual caveats as long as it's legal, doesn't cause others harm, etc). Live and let live. BUT it's not as simple as that is it. And writing it off as something for the middle aged and elderly menfolk is utter tosh. It would be all well and good if we weren't expected by the wokerati to accept a warped version of reality, to re-invent evolution, to re-write history, to accept only one skewed version, to go along with utter nonsense, to adapt to a minority (many of who don't actually give a toss), etc etc.

When I was young we always lectured old people about their thoughts and behaviour. That might be because I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Wasn't that what Til Death Do I Part and Rising Damp were about? I haven't had any young person lecture me about what I do or think, except my grandson. I still don't recognise the world as you see it.
