Yeah I thought Puerta looked very good. Makes it all the more mystifying he didn't play for a handful of games.
I think we pass the ball better than most , or ‘keep possession’ but at times it’s back to laboured Rosie ball , the oppos are back in position . We are so poor in attack that it almost always breaks down and the oppos counter more effectively. If I was playing us as a manager I would say let them have the ball as much as they like and train our team to counter effectively . Maybe we ought to try sitting deep and tempt the other team to break us down so WE can counter. It reminds me of England teams for 30-40 year always tried to attack more than other countries but usually lost to quick counter .
Maybe the intention was to not play him for one of the conspiratorial reasons but that’s become untenable due to injuries and the performances of others.
Ye it annoys me too When We beat Millwall in mid January we were 4 points off them and they were apparently **** They’re now 12 points ahead of us What does that make us
We’ll never have consistency on the field until there’s consistency from the top down. Acun has no long term plan, he’s burnt through managers and back room staff at an alarming rate. Every transfer window is pure chaos, the squad always has major gaps that need filling and panic buying is the norm. The turnover of players just doesn’t lend itself to consistency on the field, and let’s face it we’ve had some rotten luck with injuries this season both long and medium term.
There were a number of occasions late on where Kamara in particular and to a lesser extent Puerta put excellent crosses in but no one gambled on being there.
Portsmouth were dead and buried a few weeks ago, getting battered 4-0 every week. They look fine now. We need to start winning games on the bounce, you can almost bet one of the teams below us will. Having to rely on 3 teams being worse than us is appalling, injuries or no injuries, this season has been a cluster ****.
Portsmouth invested in their weak area and brought in two Eastern European defenders who have bolstered a very weak defence. We have been crying out for full backs all season but we chose to go along the exciting route bringing in mostly midfielders wingers and forwards, but still can't hit a cows arse with a shovel.
"We are all frustrated with our performance tonight. I don't think it was a bad performance. We were not ruthless enough and we were not as aggressive or as intense as we wanted to be," Selles told Hull Live. "Yes, absolutely, absolutely (we let ourselves down in not creating enough). We got the control of the game having the ball, but we didn't get any penetration, any threat, any second movement into the box, any movement in and around there. "The opposition did a good job of course but I think we need to put ourselves in a position to do more. "We talk about coming here today and trying to play our game and trying to be dynamic and trying to be aggressive and try to get a second victory in a row, try to give us a platform to grow, and we as a team we didn't, so we don't give ourselves the chance to breathe a little bit and get some points away from the relegation zone. "It's just for us. We need to find a way to come into those games and be more aggressive to create our chances." "I don't think we were scared," he said. "I think it's the game when we start to play, we break up the pressure the first couple of times, they become a little bit lower and then we have the ball and we were not making the second movement to attack. They were just moving and waiting for us to make the mistake. I don't think we were afraid. "They were protecting really well and then we were not able to break them down and even find the pass to create this organisation, I think that was that. Then in the beginning of the second half we conceded a goal from a second action from a set piece that we usually defend well and that was it. "It took us until the minute 82 to create something. I'm disappointed because we should play the games with no fear because that's the reality. I don't know if it was a fear or no fear that I would need to find out, but we need to go and give ourselves the opportunity to perform. "We are good in the games that we can go and attack and make the second movement and go to those spaces. When we are just waiting on a game as slow as we played today, we cannot compete."
Sounds as if we've gone there with a right $hit attitude. Some might say typical City.. City syndrome....Works every time....Remember, about 20 years ago winning at Nottm For on the Saturday and a mate of mine begging me to go to Barnsley on the Tues, but anyone with half a brain knew they'd lose. Didn't let me down. If we cop the same don't give a **** attitude vs Plymouth then its another home loss. Looking at the run in and the games against teams around us we should be beat, then we're going down.
That's the whole point of beating the press which we saw last season. As Kalman rightly says though, when you've got two players at the back that refuse to play the ball forwards quickly, we end up taking all the risk in front of our own goal and turning them plays into effective attacks only on very rare occasions.
And it probably will. Cardiff played like the away team last night - sit back in numbers and hope to nick a goal - which, as we all know, we've had a problem dealing with at home for years now. Plymouth will play exactly the same way next week so unless Ruben can magically concoct a new mentality expect rinse and repeat.
thats it aint it how can we expect to have success, when every transfer window sees 6+ new players its ridiculous and is setting up for failure really
Anyone up for goin to Pompey on D-day? Lets hope they are in party mood and feeling generous. Just to to sure I am of course referring to those south coast types. Because I wouldn't trust City to get anything down there if their lives depended on it.
And add to that the buzz that will be in their team, were nailed on for relegation now 3 points behind us, a win won't get them out of the relegation zone because of the goal difference but closing in on safety. They beat Liverpool, likely to get thrashed at man city but won't care it was a free hit and a good day out. Their travelling support will be on a high. For us a lack of consistency sees us looking down as much as looking up at the league table, yet more injuries means the slack handful of Jack's get thrown again and another shake up of players and positions. Our home form is rubbish. And charity begins at our home for those in desperate need. All in all not looking good.
It's the same as formations a 4222 4231would have been 442 or 451 With wingers and attacking midfielders pushing forward in the not too distant past
