I think we just need to actually use the bench and not just Jones as a deep cm. We should end up as Alisson Quansah konate vvd tsimikas Jones Gravenberch endo diaz/gakpo Salah diaz/gakpo Just get.end on in time to actually play and do a simple lock down of the side. Push salah up to 10 or whatever. He doesn't work for us in defense. Just try lock it down if we are able. Macallister had 8 days rest in the summer and it was his decision so he is absolutely blowing. Gravenberch is getting stiff looking You need energy but it's no good having a player like jones who might have energy but not a clue where to be.
So. One of 3 outcomes after today. Lfc lead by 8 points with 11 games to go but arsenal have game in hand Lfc lead by 9 with 11 to go but arsenal have.game.in hand Lfc lead by 11 with 11 to go but arsenal have game in hand Arsenal next games are forest (a) followed by psv (a) and then man utd (a) then psv (h) and then Chelsea (h) They need to win all 3. As merson says with no forwards. In the same timeframe. Lfc play city(a), then Newcastle (h) then psg (a), then Southampton (h) then psg (h) and finally Newcastle in league cup final. Our 3 league games might be considered easier than theirs if anything. We also have a weekend off. If we just match them for 3 games we will be 9 games left with 8 points lead. If we extend that lead over the next 3 games and of course play a cl round and a cup final then that's huge in the season
Think we pick up 4/5 points from those three Arsenal pick up 6 for me possibly 9 as I think Forest may have gone
Forest are fine. Southampton is must win, non negotiable Newcastle is at home. Again home games are key and city just humiliated them at home. We can't be losing and giving them confidence for the cup final. City is tough sure.
CONFIRMED LINE UP ! Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Diaz Substitutes: Kelleher, Quansah, Tsimikas, Endo, Elliott, Chiesa, Gakpo, Jota, Nunez
Team musings So the big news for Liverpool is Cody Gakpo is back in the squad, but he is only fit enough for the bench. He has had an excellent season so hopefully he can feature at some stage. Curtis Jones, we think, will start off the left and Luis Diaz will lead the line with Diogo Jota dropping to the bench. It's a bench packed with firepower with Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Jota all on there. For Manchester City, the obvious news is no Erling Haaland. The Norwegian goalmachine misses out with a knee injury. Kevin De Bruyne starts but that centre-back partnership of Khusanov and Ake is not exactly tried-and-tested. An interesting afternoon awaits... Man City vs Liverpool LIVE - teams, Erling Haaland latest, channel, kick-off time, score and stream - Liverpool Echo
I didn't like Jones playing out left against Villa, but Szoboszlai seems more effective in the 10 role so I guess Jones will have to do a job there again.
Decent options if needed, fast start would be great - let’s get at this lot because it really ain’t all that
