With Trump it’s all about $. End the war & the US financial burden reduces massively. How to end; do a deal which financially favours the US by means of minerals & if it tramples over Zelensky, so be it. Threatening to withdraw $ support, which Europe won’t be able to fill & with the Starlink switch off threat, he’s in a formidable position to direct a deal. It’s going to happen, which I presume means Ukraine will cede some territory. I want to sad but inevitable but I suppose if it does stop the war, it can be seen as a positive. Whether Putin holds just there ……
Right and left are arbitrary terms anyway. Both far right and far left have embraced Accelerationism and the billionaire tech people are very keen on network states. All the people sitting in the front row at Trump’s inauguration have stated at some point or other they think the current system of nations will die and technostates or network states will take over. I am not saying it is true, but it is a really good conspiracy theory as everything does match up.
I received that for Christmas 4 years ago. At the time I was hoping that would be the only time I would have to see that face again. Alas here we are.
The thing is Laces that's how this thread works for most of the posters on here, not just Os. It is only a platform for conversation when the posters involved all agree with one another. We may have had our disagreements but even I can recognise that you are one of only a few who will give opinions that could be described as both right and left wing*. You can't say that about many others on here, we are all entrenched in our views. Os is not really any different just maybe a bit more exuberant. The time of polite debate passed long ago mainly because opposing views aren't really tolerated with any respect. I would suggest that when a poster has had enough of the insults, false accusations and pompous put downs, they either leave or respond in kind. That's where we are now and why there are so many chaotic arguments. For the most part the politics board is for point scoring and I don't exclude myself from that either. I don't post to discuss issues anymore, I'll find something that I agree with or something that points out hypocrisy and put it up, if that upsets the pious or thin skinned amongst us, so much the better. I can't be bothered engaging with those who I know are going to disagree for the sake of it, or start the racism/.....phobic/ bigot/ extremely extreme far right and beyond accusations. Then there's always a comparison to the Daily Mail or trying to discredit the source of a quote to fall back on for the unimaginative. Just a while ago there were a number of comments about how this board was once good for a civilised chat and how things have changed for the worse blah, blah blah. They were obviously blaming Osvaldorama for upsetting their cosy clique. But maybe they should have looked at themselves a bit closer. The fact that they are unable to cope with someone who voices his unpopular opinions to the point of them losing the plot is hard to understand in an adult. It seems that too many take themselves so seriously that they think they're above being made fun of or don't even recognise it. When I see OS say "as usual, I'm right" I laugh. It's such an obvious wind up but someone always has got to try to put him in his place. *Sorry, that's not a particularly good description but I'm struggling for something better at this time of night.
It would be if certain posters weren’t more interested in ‘gotchas’ and posting nonsense from totally disreputable magazines.
Amazon has taken control of the James Bond franchise, there's no word yet on who'll play 007 but there are plenty of candidates for the role of villainous megalomaniac plotting to take over the world. please log in to view this image
I agree with Stephen Fry.:…. Stephen Fry, "The world is upside down, and yes as an old leftie who has always thought that spending on defence is criminal and terrible in a world of poverty and famine. But it's changed my view" "That's what you have to do when the world changes, you can't stay the same" "I believe in institutions. I believe in the rule of law. These are the things Trump doesn't believe in" "We know that because he's a convicted felon" "We have to come to a conclusion that the left and right in Britain have far more in common with each other than they do with Trump and the tyrants in the world" "And we have to find an alliance between us and if that involves higher spending on defence, then unfortunately, so be it"
Sadly populism is the enemy now - not left or right. It is the search for easy answers and easy people to blame. It is the post-truth culture. It is echo chambers and lies repeated ad nauseum. It is journalism ignored while influencers reign supreme. It is a billion Russian bots pumping misinformation. It is the desire for free speech WITHOUT the responsibility for civility and honesty.
https://x.com/db_fink/status/1893395624172888299?s=46 Interesting post about just how disastrous the coming tax rises will be. I honestly believe this is the worst government in history, just when we need someone sensible. The UK is in huge trouble
You have honestly been saying that with real honesty since the first day they were elected. Big awfulness and terror! Worst ever! Disaster!
Back to my free speech comment above. I am interested in people’s views on this. I do not believe free speech without consequence is a positive for society. There are things that should not be said. All those defending absolute free speech: would you defend a *****phile twitter account which pumped information about how to get children? If not, then you agree with me that free speech has limits.
No freedom of speech un UK if you support Palestine. Haven't heaed Musk commenting on that....or Osvaldorama!
The whole world is in trouble; at least in part, because the super rich are syphoning off such obscene amounts of wealth that even stable societies are becoming unbalanced. Taxing wealth is one way of redressing this imbalance.
I thought I could spot a piss take but that one got me. For a moment there I thought he was being serious.
