This could stop the Libyan crisis! Just make Gadaffi wear a N*wcastle strip; even his personal security forces will feel compelled to stop the menace!
@Cabinda safc am a coach of sanderland afc keroche in Kenya we would really appreciate your help with those old or new shirt, looking forward to hear from you
A very warm hello to you my friend Our mates - Ballin' Boy (the man on the ground) and Amsterdam Roger, are co-ordinating things in Africa. I am sure Ballin' Boy will be happy to hear from you, so maybe pm him? I'm sure we would welcome any news from you about the team/set up etc.....
Been meaning to reply to this for a while. Don't have shirts or anything but would like to contribute. When you have details let me know how I can donate. If not cash I could buy some footballs and other equipment or something. Great idea lads. BTW I know the lads who set up kick4life charity http://kick4life.org . They have ties with soton and england teams among others. I can put you in touch if you guys want some advice from someone who has done this kind of thing before.
yes as amsterdam roger wrote weeks ago, when he visited Kenya two years ago,he used to join us in every match we played, its sad coz most of our player as you can see in our picture never own a playing boots, and if they have u cant tell if its black or white, our balls are the same with our shoes many patches, the team is great and players have potential and as Mensah, muntari once said he never owned playing boots we look at where he is and we believe we can do the same, our request to all friends here,if you have pair of shoes ,shirt, track suits, balls which you dont use remember Sunderland afc keroche.........................drop me or Amsterdam roger a line or two, thanks in advance
I was going through some cupboard pending a more permanent move to Toronto and I came agross some old shirts - including last years away shirt (I must have been pissed when I bought that one as I hated teh 'Boylsports' logo). It crossed my mind though that my old XXL shirts are gonna look pretty odd on young African lads...
Been doing this for years, quite a few beach boys in Kenya running around with my sunderland shirts on, and i mean immediately rip of what they got on to get a football top on. Getting ready for Thailand next month its there turn, so i will start the far east Sunderland awareness, lol, was quizzed in the airport last year about Peter Reid and Sunderland as he was their National manager
Been following this thread since it started, and agree it is an excellent idea. Unfortunately it seems to have stalled for a while. Did anyone get any response from SAFC? Are we any nearer to having a collection point for kit? I along with some others would even buy new kit and have it sent to a collection point (probably cheaper for me..the postal rates from here are extortionate)because it is such a good cause. If we can get an address to use as a collection point, and have a final collection date (could even mention it in the Echo) it would be a huge step in the right direction, unless of course the logistics are not worked out yet of how to get the kit out to Africa. I know it's easy for someone who doesn't have to do much about it, "I would if I could" is the only answer that I have. All I can do at the mo is to gol round the lads out here, and collect any old kit, get it sent back whenever anyone is travelling. It is difficult for anyone to work, then have to sort out something like this, but anyone that can, for me, can and should get all the press and media attention that such an effort would rightly deserve. Can't understand why SAFC haven't endorsed it.
Thanks for the Response Norway, as i live in Amsterdam and Ballin in Kenya Ballin is sorting out the Kenyan side and the team, the coach has already joined this site Sunderland afc Keroche, and they are trying to organise an Internet access where a lot more can join here. As far as the collection points go i asked for a volunteer to handle the Sunderland side of things, And Bruicesbeaks name was throw in the hat ,unfortunately hes on holiday at the moment so we will have to wait until he is back for the Sunderland end to burst into life. As you out of the country and would like to post i can give you Paul's details privately, he is the team coach, his main concern at the moment is boots balls whistles hard to get there at reasonable prices, or if you would like the name of the local church and the lady's name who does the charity on that end to post direct if you would like to do that. Which brings up a good idea by you if any supporters not in England, and would like to contribute, please send me a notification and i will reply with the adress and contact details.
A thought i had on this to make it as substantial as possible was this: if the club come back and want to get involved, make it a raffle, a donated bit of kit = one raffle ticket, prize being a signed ball or a signed shirt, am sure with minimal notification this would increase the amount of kit available to be sent away. just my 2p
After Ballin's spoken with the club, if they want to support it it might be worth asking them if they want to donate any other shirts left at the end of this season, that would give a fair few.
Quinny wants to raise the international profile of the club so this is ideal. What are the club waiting for?
