I thought the same. Think it hit the roof of the net in the end. Its where we have missed Gakpo always seems to be in the right place to finish off a simple tap in. I think out of the 5 main attackers Gakpo is the one I would want a big chance to fall to all the others have an erractic side to there finishing at times.
Jota is usually the guy for a tap in, but he couldn't buy a hotel last night. On another day, he'd have an hat-trick. Nunez was frustrating; he just kept taking the wrong option (and I've blanked that miss from memory)
Slot says he's going to speak to Nunez about his lack of work rate after the miss. Nunez says he'll never give up.
Yeah, but when Jota crossed for Salah for the first goal you didn't, and nor should you have to in those situations. Still more pissed off that Nunez missed the easy ball across to Salah when bursting through against Martinez - it really wasn't that hard. But that is Darwin - makes the easy look hard, makes the regular look impossible, and makes the hard look easy about twice season, and on that basis he gets a free pass from a lot of our fanbase. We should support him till the end of the season, of course, but let's not forget what happened here - he hit all the fabled metrics (albeit from the previous regime), the same metrics that have frequently been the excuse that we never bought this player of that player (and kept our 'war chest' available for the 'window next summer' on so many occasions). I'm reminded of the saying that the camel was a horse designed by a committee: or a donkey designed by a set of metrics, as this case may be.
Who would have taken a home win and two away draws from those three matches beforehand? Yes we could have won all three but we could have lost and drawn as well. My worry is the midfield looks very tired. Not just last night but also against Everton and Wolves. I have said this before, so have others, we needed another midfielder and left back before the season started. Slot obviously does not rate Elliott and Endo seems to be used as a last resort only. We got the subs all wrong last night. City will be up for the match this weekend, make no mistake. If they can’t win it, they want to stop us winning it.
Can I just point out that two wins and a loss are better than two draws and a win? Ask the 2008 side that also lost only one game but had far, far too many draws. I'd have well preferred 6 points from the last 2 games than 5. Not losing is overrated.
I hope Newcastle's scouts didn't watch the highlights then since we're supposedly swapping him for Isak in the summer.
Before hand? How far before hand? Start of season? Maybe so. The last ever woodison Derby was always going to be a slog. No matter when it was but thst doesn't forgive throwing it away. Any trip to Villa park can be tough so yeah at the stsrt of the season it's OK. The fact they can ot defend.means it's disappointing but it's a tough game. I'd take the point v city 1000% people are missing their rebuild and it won't be half as easy as people make out Then Newcastle at home is a disaster follow up.
Well you could take this to ridiculous levels and say - you could draw every game and finish the season on 38 points having not lost at all. Nobody's happy with that. 'Not losing' isn't and hasn't ever been our aim. However, there are times when a draw is definitely a good result. Klopp only won twice in 9 years at Goodison so we know that, whatever the form of both teams is going into the game, a draw is always the likely outcome. I think it's the manner of the latest 2 draws that is irritating people. Rightly so, but there's a way to go yet and personally, I don't see the point in being miserable on the ride. I'm feeling the bumps but staying excited for what's to come.
That’s a simplistic way of looking at things though. Obviously if you need 6 points to win a title from 3 games, win 2 and lose 1 is better than drawing 2 and winning 1. but 25 games into the season. Momentum, confidence and having a some sort of aura about you are all vital with 1/3 of the season left. If we had lost a couple of those draws, who knows if we’d have had the confidence to win the next game. Who knows if teams go well once they go behind they don’t come back so gain more confidence. atm teams are looking at us going yeah maybe we can get at them a bit but at 2-1 up they’re in the game and makes it nervy for them. It gives our players confidence that we can get a result. It means Arsenal might look at couple games tbh inning they have to win as it’s less likely we’re going to lose etc.
They are saving themselves Pep has already said how much he wants to win the game Save Haaland for it
It really does show where city are at They give up in the cl before the second leg is even played and rest players to play lfc in the league. That for me would be a sackable offense for any manager but especially one at a club supposedly out to.win If anchelotti did it he'd be sacked.
Erm, I’m not sure I saw him say anywhere in the media he had given up after being 1 goal down and resting players? He played full strength v Madrid.
Who was on the bench and not starting? One erling haaland. That's surrender right there. You need to rest you rest in the league not the cl.
