Pulp tickets go on sale today and I was talking to work colleague on how Manchester and Liverpool get all the credit musically. But Sheffield is very underrated.
Nowt like a bit of "air guitar"... Closer to home...The Grease Band... http://gjbath.com/Sheffield/Rag2.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Cocker
Reasons to 'dislike / hate' Sheffield... United... Wednesday... Getting bricked at Bumall Lame at my first away game... Meadowhell - though technically it's not in Sheffield Paul 'popstar blade' Heaton Jarhead Pulp Cockwomble Sheffield University The accent of Sheffield... The people of Sheffield... The pretence of South Yorkshire... Otherwise
Back in the day Sheffield was the nearest venue to Hull that used to have bigger names playing at Sheffield City Hall...there used to be a late train back from Sheffield to Hull so I got to see a few bands there...I was also good friends with staff from Radio Hallam and remember going for dinner with Joe Elliott when they were trying to get plays for their first single. There used to be a corridor from the green room to the studios and all the guests used to sign the wall....many big names on there. Then they employed a new cleaner and...she managed to remove half of the "grafitti" from the walls before any one could stop her! Last visit was to the Arena to see Alfie Boe and Michael Ball in Les Miserables.
I see the battle over the Leadmill eviction Is still ongoing. Great little venue I hope they win, excellent beer menu too. And a Sheffield band
