Unbelievable how calm Neil was on the ball all night. Never panicked at all, we just never had an out in the 2nd half to relieve the pressure. Personally would've had mayenda on for Rigg at half time. We were 442 in defence and his pace would've gave us more an option to get up the pitch or chase the long balls down.
Yeah and I get it to a degree - no wanting to move Neil or Jobe from their main positions, but in that case I'd have looked at Browne or Aleksic as the 10 option. I probably would have brought Mepham on, but that's because I'm a defensive knobber
I think we would all have been so optimistic about pushing for automatics if we'd won last night. I think we all agree Leeds will go up, so had we won we would be 5 points behind Sheffield United. If we win on Saturday and they lose to Leeds we are 5 points behind. They then have 5 tricky games, after those we could even be within a couple of points of them with about 7 games to go, it could still be a lot tighter than we think. We just need to keep winning and see what happens
He is a holding midfielder let’s not pretend like he was playing the 10 though that role was a defensive one. They’d just changed their midfielders and we freshened up. Right sub, wrong player imo but not a complete silly one
Dan Neil has matured into an excellent player.....in my view, currently our best, and we are going to get some substantial offers for him this summer.
At times he was the furthest forward, he was definitely part of the "2" in a 4-4-2 shape out of possession.
Depending on our league position it could be disastrous or relatively innocuous ... ... a break before the playoffs could be just what he needs.
Problem was he was one of only a few trying to keep possession. He was going nuts , we won the ball back, he was so composed turned his man played it calmly out wide and I can't remember who it was just played an aimless ball forward. You could see the anger in Neil's face , he was screaming at them for pointlessly giving the ball away. They was a couple of times Jobe and Le Fee tried playing it out then someone would panic and just hit it long. If we can work on that bit where the players keep their composure and counter rather than panic we would be killing teams off when then throw everything at us in the last 10-15 minutes
Agree,it's not over, but we have tricky games too.....Sheff Wed,Coventry,WBA,all away. However,as you rightly say....if we keep winning!
Think that might have been isidor, can remember Neil screaming at someone when the return pass got played straight out of play. That's why the samed sub was more confusing as we would've been better to get our quicker players on the pitch and try and break at speed, 2nd half there was no counter attacking like we seen in the 1st half, we didn't push forward as a team and we ended up sitting in and getting deeper.
7 wins from our last 13 in the league. We’d need more than that for any chance of automatics. Tough away games to come, I don’t see it personally.
