I think it is fair to say first half we were battered and 2nd better, but still didn't lay a glove on them. But they just have better players than we do, it is as simple as that. Interestingly enough, a good friend of mine who is a Burnley fan thinks we will be okay, he said first half that is the best they have played this season, but 2nd half we did fair much better. I was happy with seeing Crooks/Alzate (who I thought was the best player for us) and Matazo, but it did seem to work, I think we missed Slaters energy. Clearly, the 2 weakest areas are both full backs, Macca was up against a winger on fire last night, but both didn't get much help from the 2 in front of them. We have to start winning at home, that really is what it comes down to now. Whether we can start Saturday remains to be seen, but it will be a tough ask I suspect.
Selles went into a lot of specific detail about how and why his plan didn't work in the first part of the game and had to be changed, right down to the exact areas where their passes were getting through our press and opening us up. I find it strange to dismiss that insight and insist it was just the selection.
i think we will stay up but once again, our transfer people have done a poor job we sign 77 midfielders but neglect our weakest area, in fact, we let one go, so we are even weaker than before the window started.. and no im not saying giles is the answer, but they decided to bloody sign him, another **** decision eh, i like macca, but hes not a left back, thats a factamundo we drop slater, and our midfield was ****ing woeful, crooks looks like he hasnt ran for 6 months
Fair play if Selles is openly admitting he got it wrong (haven't heard it yet). We were better 2nd half, but I think a lot of that was that it was a typical Burnley performance 2nd half - 2 up, just contain us, don't concede and it's 3 points. But at the end of the day, they were just better than us right across the park, and then you look at the subs they bring on too! Next 3 are of course the acid test, not last night.
i dont think we were 'better' 2nd half its as you said, burnley could take their foot off the gas, and yes we huffed a bit more, but we didnt lay a finger on them so if having some more passes is a better performance, then i dunno what to say
It's a topic for the summer but yes, our recruitment is a mess. You look at some of the players on big contracts. In the summer we'll finally be free of Sinik but we'll be trying to get rid of Giles and Ömür again, and do we think Kamara is really the future of our attack? Cos he's another one on a long contract for a big fee which we can't really take a loss on. But I think our midfield looking leggy last night was probably more about Burnley making us chase them for the first half hour than anything else. Anyone would look tired under those circumstances.
i honestly wouldnt be surprised if kamara leaves on loan in the summer and i think carrick will be sacked by the summer, so i doubt boro will sign giles i dont think its viable for us to constantly sign 7-8 players every window, it leaves no room for proper growth as a team something has to give and im not even counting the financial side and off topic a tad, i think it'd be interesting to see how parkers burnley would fair if they're promoted leeds and sheff u will be hammered most weeks maybe parkerball will actually pick up more points
Oh that’s so good of him Pointing it out afterwards His job is to nullify them while attacking them It’s no good afterwards he should be doing it in the game If that means making a sub after twenty minutes then do it
I'm surprised that you're surprised. When was the last time City won after having had a (self-induced cup defeat) break or 'warm weather training'? It's been a feature of this club for years that after a weekend off they come back playing with their flip-flops on.
I just had a look at Rowetts line up at Oxford for his first game and their game on Tuesday. 8 of the same starters and look how he’s galvanised that team While we’ve gone on another mental spending spree
Because that's where their best player was, so they gave him the ball as often as possible, and Macca did win several one on ones against him but generally the winger was too good for him, as he would have been for anyone we have to put in that spot. Apart from that, spot on.
What do you mean apart from that spot on? it just seems terribly mean of Burnley to do that! Don’t they know we don’t have a decent full back ??? And there’s just no way of us knowing that their best player was playing on the wing is there? That’s a shame because if we did we could have doubled up on him to support macca Least we know now so next season we’ll be ready for it grrrrr
Sellers much like Walter seems to chop and change every game. Selles also said in an interview a few weeks ago that he had a way of playing and setting up the team, not changing according to the opponents. He didn't say the word philosophy but it all sounded rather familiar. Maybe all managers just talk ****e when interviewed.
you just need to look at the new plymouth manager and what he changed, just some solid new defenders and a tweak to 3 at the back in simple terms im sick of our kamikaze windows constantly, a team cant thrive when its changing so much every 6 months. its ridiculous
I said it at the time but signing players who haven’t played since November would lead to this. We probably could’ve done without Crooks and just signed Matazo and a left-back instead. Not saying Crooks is a bad player but I really do think Crooks will be considered deadwood in 12 months time. We’re constantly doing this. Mehlem and Palmer haven’t been here 12 months and will probably go in the summer permanently.
