The last time Forest played Exeter in the league was 1950/1951. In fact they have only played them 4 times, twice that season and twice the one before.A decade ago Forest were in the Championship, in fact they were in it for over 14years before getting promoted to the PL. They have only ever had 3 seasons in the third level and none in the 4th level. I wish we had their history and support. I would rather have witnessed what Forest did over the last 62 years at City than what I did see.
Well that's my history lesson for the night Still a nothing club in the modern game, like Leeds, Wendies, Villa, Derby etc
They are all bigger than we are. The money Forest have and the plans for the stadium mean they could reach a level of success and support we will never be able to.
Good to see MacDonald playing tonight. It was apparently his debut after signing from Aberdeen. Following his serious illnesses with us, it’s great to see he got back to having a decent career.
They’ve won two European cups which is two more than Arsenal so I’d definitely say they’re a big club.
So, there were only 15,000 there? Don’t think so. The size of clubs is based on their history and success, of which Forest have a lot more than us.
I remember City playing in front of 16,000 at Chelsea, 13,000 at Leeds, 13,000 at Sunderland. All those little clubs. Though none of them have ever had a crowd of under 2,000 like we have,
Sunderland a plastics club? They are local fans. What do you call us going from 1,700 to over 20,000 fans when we got to the top flight,? Sunderland and Chelsea’s biggest crowds, over 75,000 and over 80,000 were set back in the 1930s when we were getting paltry crowds.
Sunderland have fans from all over, even beautiful downtown Traralgon. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
sunderland were a big club, but their period was pre-war. when i started following football,c.1970, four clubs had won the league seven times - arsenal, everton, liverpool, and man utd. they've all added to their totals since, with liverpool and man utd both enjoying long spells at the top. by 1970, two clubs had won the league six times - sunderland and aston villa. but sunderland won their last league title in 1936, now almost 90 year ago. villa's last was 1910, but they did manage one more in 1981 and converted it into a european cup win in 1982.
If you started going in 1970 you will remember them bringing loads of fans down here whilst we took 2 coaches up there even in Terry Neill’s first season. Being a big club and a successful club are not always the same thing, though obviously one leads to the other.
