Nuclear nightmare. Despite French firm EDF’s assurances Sizewell would be a carbon copy of the ongoing Hinkley Point C project, and that major savings in time and cost would result accordingly, it has persuaded ministers that £8bn of public money is required up front merely to help it reach a Sizewell decision. Meanwhile, French auditors advise against proceeding with Sizewell until Hinkley’s issues are resolved. With Hinkley over budget and EDF seeking additional funds, there are suspicions "Sizewell" money is being redirected. As Labour backtracks on binding green targets and prioritises economic growth, calls are growing for Ed Miliband to freeze further Sizewell funding until EDF commits. Its not good enough, but at least now there is a prompt response to this stuff from the governing party rather than 'I consider the matter closed'. This Whatsapp group really does sound like something from The Thick of it though, knobs.
It’s his security team I feel sorry for, having to put their lives at risk to protect him from potential assassination attempts.
Could we have a 'No-one else cares' thread, so that posters can put things in there, safe in the knowledge that they will remain un-commented on? Just an idea
See this is what pisses me off with politics. There's a good point to be made here, namely why are British tax papers providing vehicles to a foreign government, but why the hyperbole? A quick Google shows that this company provides Porsche, VW and Skoda. Given the cost of the contract and the amount of vehicles, it's clear its not Porsches we're paying for. They're deliberately misleading to rile people up. It's wrong. It detracts from the point and gives the decision makers the ability to deny. It's an own goal in some respects
Money isn’t real, people. It is just imaginary numbers being pushed around by businesses and governments to justify the pathetic existences lived by the majority of the world’s population.
So, fact wise, it was a deal done by the previous government for the return of 200 violent criminals to Albania to be imprisoned in Albanian prisons rather than UK ones. It was for the provision of electric minibuses. Yes, it's what really irritates and so often from a particular political persuasion (for me the reform crowd - so much is taken, twisted and reframed way beyond normal 'politicising'), though they all do it to some extent. I asked the question to see if OP knew and posted anyway or believed it.
I mean, it literally isn’t. Money is just a concept. People have to agree on its value or it is worthless. If I printed a load of my own money and started my own country that money would be valid in my nation but nobody else would value it. The move away from individual exchange - of things and labour for a representation of things and labour - does not work efficiently on a massive scale. All it does is filter the things and labour to a minority.
Good job we didn't provide them with Vauxhall then, otherwise it'd end up in some sort of diplomatic incident after 15000 miles (I'm still bitter)
The assisted dying bill is being amended to lose the protection of the high court and instead cases will be heard by a panel. Another MP is also trying to allow people who have 12 months to live and not the agreed 6 months to be allowed to apply. Protections will be lost and weakened to save money.
Re dis/misinformation. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/feb/11/far-right-mps-fake-news-misinformation-left-study https://www.uva.nl/shared-content/u...rmining-democracy-with-misinformation.html?cb "Far-right populists are significantly more likely to spread fake news on social media than politicians from mainstream or far-left parties, according to a study which argues that amplifying misinformation is now part and parcel of radical right strategy. “Radical right populists are using misinformation as a tool to destabilise democracies and gain political advantage,” said Petter Törnberg of the University of Amsterdam, a co-author of the study with Juliana Chueri of the Dutch capital’s Free University.
But these Far Right posts with false information are only being believed by gullible people like Osvaldorama who swallow this nonsense verbatim. Most people can immediately recognise this as a load of pony.
Wish I had your enthusiasm Ian, the majority of people aren't interested enough in politics to spot fake information, but are just about interested enough to vote.
