Well that was a fun game. Madrid should have been 2 up before city score and then was just neither side looking any good defensively any time the other attacked Ederson with a shocker of a game, at fault for 2 goals and gave away a pen which was luckily overturned for offside
Luckily Madrid didn't win as handsomely as they maybe should have, so there's enough (false) hope for City to fight for in the 2nd leg
They still have their full defence and midfield, and Trossard is no more 'bare bones' than Darwin or Jota is for us, tbh.
The problem being who could you get in January? They tried for Watkins. The rumours going around last couple of days was we were close to selling Nunez but couldn't get a replacement at a price we were willing to pay, but that is probably bs.
They have Saka, Martenelli, Jesus and Havertz all out pretty much for the rest of the season. Just Trossard and Nwaneri left… Equivalent to us having to crack on with Elliott and Diaz only for the rest of the season. It’s significant, be real
I don’t think they were ever serious tbh, coming in with 48 hours of the window left was never going to work. I understand the logic in the right player rather than any player, but it’s not like they haven’t needed one for longer than just this season.
Especially with Duran being heavily linked to go. They were never selling both. have a feeling arsenal saw the Duran bid and thought they’d give Villa the option that if they wanted to keep Duran for long term then they have choice to sell Watkins.
Not been confirmed yet, has it? Btw, does anyone know what the situation is with Joe? I read he didn't pull/tear his hamstring, but was taken off as a precaution. Hoping we can ease him back for those few games in March if that's the case, probably going to have to sit out this hectic February anyway.
I only read one source and haven't looked to confirm it elsewhere - it's a slight injury in the same leg as the recent hamstring problem which made the medical staff more wary than had it been the other leg.
