    Statement: Ruben Gnanalingam

Queens Park Rangers Football Club condemns all forms of discrimination and prejudice, and is proud to foster an inclusive environment for all its supporters.

Vice-Chairman Ruben Gnanalingam has issued the following statement:

“I deeply regret the reposts I shared on my social media account.

“In an attempt to highlight the devastating impact the conflict in the middle east is having on innocent children on both sides, I reposted views which I absolutely do not share, without checking all the content on these posts thoroughly enough.

“Upon reflection, I recognise that the content I shared was inappropriate and, as stated, does not reflect my personal values. I sincerely apologise for the distress caused to everyone affected by this situation, including my colleagues, friends, and family.

“I am immensely proud to be the owner of QPR and the club has always been a shining example of inclusivity and diversity. I understand why some of my posts have caused offence to some of our Jewish supporters in particular and I have spent the last few days listening to those concerns and trying to learn more. I will continue to do so.

“As someone who values unity, diversity, and respect for all people, I take full responsibility for my actions and have removed the reposts.

“Given the sensitivity of these issues and my position as a global business leader, I have decided to make my account inactive for the foreseeable future.

“This step is part of a broader effort to ensure my focus remains on my professional commitments and the organisations I serve, while avoiding any further potential misunderstandings.”

The owner of Queens Park Rangers FC has said he regrets causing “distress” after re-sharing a litany of anti-Israel posts on his personal LinkedIn page.

Ruben Gnanalingam, the majority stakeholder in QPR, reposted comments urging "armies" to "dismantle" Israel and compared the war in Gaza with the Holocaust.

Dozens of anti-Israel posts reshared by the Malaysian businessman include several that advocate for Israel’s eradication, praise the proscribed terror group Hezbollah as "resistance fighters," and promote conspiracy theories that Israel "owns" the United States.

mob violence against Israeli football fans in Amsterdam last November, saying: “A pogrom?? Go f*** yourself.”

"I am proud to see the complete & total rejection of fascist Nazi Zionism in our streets. There's an *actual* Zionist holocaust against Palestine right now & per usual, Zionists are committed to playing the victim.”

Gnanalingam also reposted a comment from anti-Zionist MP George Galloway about the “#GazaHolocaust” and shared an image that juxtaposed the “Jewish Holocaust” with a photo labelled “The Palestinian Holocaust – 2024.”

Another post reshared by Gnanalingam demands that "Arabs wake-up" (Photo: GnasherJew/LinkedIn)
In a similar vein, he also shared a post showing Anne Frank beside Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza, and superimposing Rajab onto the cover of The Diary of Anne Frank.

And the club owner also shared conspiracy claims that Israel exerts control over the United States, citing American sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein as supposed evidence. “The US is totally owned by Israel,” one post reads, alleging that the US “did not pursue the Epstein Network, destroyed the evidence, killed the chief detective.” The post includes an image of Jeffrey and Ghislaine Epstein over a map of America.

A post reshared on Gnanalingam's profile called for the "Zio entity" to be dismantled (Photo: GnasherJew/LinkedIn)
Further posts reshared by Gnanalingam praise Hezbollah, proscribed by the UK as a terrorist organisation, as a "resistance movement whether you like it or not.”

The post states: "No rational person can now claim Hezbollah are the ‘terrorists’ in this conflict” and alleges that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) "snipes women and children" while Palestinian terrorists do not. It also accuses the IDF – not Hamas – of "targeting journalists, torturing prisoners, and using mass starvation," despite Palestinian terrorists taking some 251 hostages on October 7, 2023.

In response to the JC’s enquiry, Gnanalingam said that he regretted “any unintended distress” caused by the posts, and committed to “thoroughly vetting content before sharing it in the future."

One post on his social media stated that Israel 'owned' America (GnasherJew/LinkedIn)
He serves as the chair and managing director of Malaysia’s Westports Holdings port operator, is the director of Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), president of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club, and is a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council. He also chairs QPR’s charitable arm and sits on the advisory board of the “Inclusion Initiative” at the London School of Economics (LSE).

At LSE, Gnanalingam’s online profile states that he has “key expertise” in areas of “Diversity and inclusion".

In a statement to the JC, Gnanalingam explained, "My intention behind the reposts on LinkedIn was to highlight the devastating impact of this conflict on innocent children and to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis. I deeply value tolerance, diversity, and respect for all people, as my colleagues, employees, and friends will attest.”

He added: "I regret any unintended distress caused by the reposts and, upon reflection, recognise my responsibility as a public figure to more thoroughly vet content before sharing it in the future."

LSE and QPR have been approached for comment.

Never ceases to disappoint how utterly dumb some people can be. Fact is, he can deny and apologise all he likes but he has shown his colours. Given his professional status and the nature of the businesses he owns/operates, he should keep his views very much private, in my opinion.

Too late, it's out there forever. There are probably many in the Labour Party that share his views. It's not a good time to be Jewish...

More than just views, I’m surprised he’s not being investigated. Clearly not someone who values unity, diversity and respect (as he claims). Disgusting he has anything to do with our club.

LinkedIn is the only social media thing I’m on, apart from this, and purely to keep in touch with a few people I might lose contact with otherwise. I culled 75% of my links when I retired, as most of them I’d never met. I’ve only ever posted on it once, to tell my remaining links that I’d retired.

LinkedIn says “The mission of LinkedIn is simple: connect the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful.”

Where the **** these posts fit into that ‘mission’ is beyond me. Clearly the platform has no moderation. I have no doubt you could find equally horrible anti Islam stuff on there too. Usually you only see posts associated with the people you are linked with. The quality of these has declined over the years, now we see a lot of stuff about personal health, kids educational achievements and other stuff which is increasingly irrelevant to professional networking.

Think I’ll kick it in the head now. Ruben can go **** himself.

Stan... I have found out to my absolute horror how unmoderated LinkedIn is

In my other retirement job...which I may have mentioned to you before...we hired someone who said on their CV they had 2 years CEO experience and 10 years senior management experience.

We looked on their LinkedIn app...which backed it up.
Only after their tower of cards came tumbling down did we find that both CV and LinkedIn was pure fantasy. ( as we're 2 references)
There are no checks on LinkedIn at all

I retired at Xmas and was lucky that for the last 7/8 years I've not had to use LI to seek out interim assignments but rather was able to rely on my existing network / word of mouth

Increasingly LI has just become a platform for individuals to big themselves up and brag about their achievements, try to connect with you when actually all they want to do is sell you whatever crap they're currently flogging, or to post endless pics of their recent Bali holiday / kids graduation.....blah blah blah. However, increasingly it seems to have been hijacked by out and out political posts, many of which are just intended to cause controversy and have nothing to do with business relationships. More than happy to leave all of that behind

More time to spend perusing the thoughtful and witty posts on here

RG is a complete tool for these reposts - and I simply don't believe that he hadn't read what he was reposting. He is perfectly entitled to his own views, but involving our club in this mess is not what we want. The club has had enough negative publicity in the past and I was under the impression that it now wants to be seen as a professionally run and focused organisation

    Maybe not...

One of the Labour figures who've got themselves into **** over messages in a WhatsApp group seems to have been a victim of what other people have said....

In his statement, Mr Ryan said: "I did not see every message, but I accept responsibility for not being more proactive in challenging what was said".

I don't even open a lot of the messages that I see posted on groups that I belong to because I know they're likely to contain stuff that I thoroughly disagree with. Should I open them all and challenge each one I don't like?

How did I have time to work??

I can understand them not fact checking the CVs of the 1 billion plus LinkedIn members, that’s the interviewers job. It’s more allowing anti semitic, anti Islamic or anti any other group posts to go unchecked. Not about free speech given the stated purpose of the platform.

My wife does the CAB stuff when she’s not actually doing short term contract work. I’m far too busy being retired I’m afraid.
