My Grandad (not a saints fan) always said that Lawrie was overrated and actually underachieved with what he had.

"Yeah he won you the FA Cup but what else did he win? Should have won more with the teams you had"

Obviously it's way before my time so I haven't a clue but he stood by it til his dying day.

 

Let’s just say your Grandad was in a very small minority. Most of us certainly felt we should have won more, especially the double in 1984, but that it was down to the board not backing Lawrie for the final push.

 

Well, depends how you look at it.

We won promotion to the EPL last year.

And also twice won a place back to the Championship.
