No Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and one of Spurs/Villa going out. Plus Man City and Man Utd are gash this year. The cup is the most open it has been in years. Newcastle/B'mouth/Brighton won't ever have a better chance to win it. Pisses me off even more of course that we f*cked it up so embarrassingly yesterday.
I absolutely love those two CBs who Plymouth signed on deadline day. They were both great - and proper, proper old school. All their interest was in tackling, heading and clearing. No trying to pass it around or be something that they're not. They might just give them a chance of staying up too.
Well deserved Plymouth. Great to see. If the draw spits out Plymouth v Burnley I'm gonna be fuming though.
Got a lot of time for Plymouth (purely because it was one of my favourite ever away days) Good for them. Just shows what maybe could have been though. What a dreadful season
They even decided against adding him to their Europa League squad, despite dropping Forster from that squad. Patterson at Sunderland impressed me last season, but I've barely watched them this season so am not sure how he's been getting on.
Another bad result this season for Rangers. I don't know if Martin has any allegiances when it comes to Scottish football, but I do wonder if Rangers could be a possible next career move for him. The likes of Gerrard and Rodgers used a spell in Glasgow to help enhance their CVs.
John Eustace, manager at 6th place Blackburn, currently in talks with relegation battlers Derby. Strange one from the outside
Apparently he has a release clause which Derby have activated. So nothing Blackburn can do about that. I suppose it doesn't necessarily mean that Eustace is actively interested in the move, or that Blackburn won't fight to keep him. He did though have two spells as a player at Derby, so maybe he likes the place or still has personal links?
I believe he hates Blackburn and the owners do not speak to him about football matters. They didn’t sign anyone in the break and he has stated he no longer wants to work there.
Quite nice to see that Maresca is beginning to show that he's an expensive Russell Martin. The Pep acolytes, and Pep himself, are being outthought with that style now. It needs adapting. As we well know.
I think Man Utd will retain the cup but I will be more fascinated to see when they will have the ability to win the Premiership. I keep expecting them to come good but do not think it is going to happen sometime soon.
If Bournemouth win a domestic trophy in the couple of years they've been good in their existence. It kinda rubs salt into the wound of the **** all we've won despite mostly being in and around the top league.
I like to see Bournemouth doing well, and am rooting for them to reach Europe, but wouldn't want to see them actually win anything. In the same way I always want other home nations to progress far in tournaments but stop short of wanting them to win it. Can handle being the 2nd most successful club on the south coast, couldn't handle being the 3rd though lol.
Our trophy record is beyond pathetic given we've spent the majority of the last 60 seasons in the top flight.
. Given the quality we had in the teams that reached FA Cup semi finals, especially in McMenemy’s day, and League Cup finals we are unfortunate not to have won a few more, but in more recent final appearances we have most definitely been the underdogs. Very unlucky to lose the league cup final against Utd because of the disallowed goal and hitting the post at 2-2, but the bad marking gave them the third goal.
