Might be just me...but I was expecting a lot more from Poveda when he came on. Didn't think he contributed anything. Might be he is still getting up to speed after a long lay off, but whatever the reason, the game wasn't for him yesterday
Yeah like I said, not a lot came off. He looked comfortable holding the ball and trying to carry it. He’s barely played he will be an asset in a few weeks, if he remains fit.
Same for me. More stepovers and flicks without actually going anywhere or doing anything. I wanted him to make the passes or get it into the box when we were behind.
I think it's fair to say that, after three games, Neil didn't offer us much more in that role. This is the problem with 'January signings' who don't fully appreciate what's needed and adversely affect the other players. As much as Le Fée is talented Cirkin seemed confused yesterday and had what I thought was one of his worst games. I learned, from my attempts at photography, that you sometimes need to step back so you can see things more clearly. I had the impression, during Plymouth and again yesterday, that the players are slightly 'overcoached'. You could clearly see, imo, the training routines for 'playing out from the back', 'switching play in midfield' and 'triangles on the wings'. But, for me all the passing, from side to side, too often allows the opposition to settle and stop what we're doing. At home, with a big crowd plus all that pace and quick feet, we should sometimes be going a little more 'gung ho' and direct ... ... it was only when we attacked aggressively at speed that chances suddenly started to come and the crowd roared. Watford, for the first time in the game, were all over the place. Coaching is great but flair, spontaneity and individuality also has it's place.
Can I just say that I do occasionally knock Patto for his distribution. Thank fk he was awake to that shot straight from kick when we had equalised. It was going in until his intervention.
My look of how the game went. Most of the team seemed off the pace didn't seem to get 50/50 balls passing was loose we were getting ripped down our right flank. We are not closing opposition down quick enough. Le Fe was not in the game in the first half You can also see the threat Mayenda brings and his link up play with Isidor is brilliant. The team that finished yesterday RLB should stick with v Luton. That shows opposition the intent especially at home. Hume seems off as does Cirkin in the defending department. We have got pace all throughout the team yet Patto never releases the ball quick enough we play out from the back very slowly allowing the opposition to amble back set up the low block and are ready for our attack. When RLB has to let us of the leash the team is dangerous in most areas. And we all know the team does entertain us when at it. When are we going to stop being a team of two half's. Is it a physical thing or a mental problem or is it RLB being over cautious.
Good points, I would make a case even for a 3/5/2 at present , this way we can start with Mayenda and Isidor up front and go from there with a flexible midfield 5
It definitely isn’t just on Samed. He did a job for us down at Boro on Monday night and I agree with one of the other lads posts last night when he suggested that to get minutes into him, which we’d assume to be RLB’s thinking he could be brought on to see a game out rather than starting him in games, particularly the likes of Plymouth and yesterday where the sides are on a poor run. To allow us to do that we would need to be in front which would require us to have our better attacking options starting. There is no doubt that both Plymouth and Watford raised their game on the day and both deserved the point. In Plymouth’s case they possibly should have even won it but didn’t take their gilt edged chances. It will be interesting to see Wednesday’s lineup. Hoping for a better performance from all concerned. Certainly can’t afford to be so lacklustre again. Luton will be every bit as physical as Watford, if not more so. Too many not at it yesterday and we certainly missed Jobe. Really like the linkup between Mayenda and Wilson. It was also good to see Aleksic getting some minute
Watching the game, Watford seem to have a load of big physical players....we tend not to do well or at least find it a bit more difficult against that kind of opposition. I'm pretty sure Luton are made up of the same kind of player... be interesting how RLB deals with the challenge.
Said the same at the match! Even said he’d brought him on too early as more then 3 mins equals injury
Wingbacks has always been the issue when it comes to us playing a back 3. Cirkin is a natural fit for it, but Hume to me isn’t right for the role. He’s an old-school right back. For me he’d fit better on the right of the three.
Very good points we do have the players imo for a 3/5/2 as our options are exceptional especially in that mid field area .
For Luton I’d go jobe for samed, mayenda for Roberts and Aleksic for Rigg (aleksic left and Lee fee central). Really impressed with the pace aleksic has so could be a better option out wide for now. I’d of thought our most used 11 will be the one to play at Leeds with the attacking midfield back to le fee Rigg and Roberts.
Passing seemed too slow for me, no tempo in it all and always felt like it was behind thr receiver. Need to start like the last 10 minutes if we can.
Would definitely show our strengths at either end of the pitch. It remains a formation that needs specific recruitment, though, I think. Doesn’t do much for the wingers who excel 1v1. Also tends towards needing water carriers in the middle of midfield. Could defo be a way to go if we don’t get up and lose a fair few.
