A large part of that comes down to our midfield is lacking in technique so overcompensates with physicality, and by complete coincidence that's where far too many costly mistakes come from due to misplaced passes or getting caught when trying to control the ball And the root of this issue comes from compensating from Romero and Mickey Van being injured, so we sought to stiffen up the midfield to offer protection to our makeshift backline - but what it really exposed was that Maddison is about the only midfielder we have who can relieve pressure when they receive the ball, which is especially damning as Bentancur was able to do the same thing effortlessly pre-injury layoffs but doesn't seem to be able to do so now
No matter currently : 1. what the Spurs injury plague is 2. how good the Poool are that was a truly gutless performance. "I really don't see why we're persisting with Postecoglou now. His injury management alone should see him out the door." I can only assume this is now about Levy calculating when is the time that the severance deal will be a "global minima" .
We have had similar before in recent times. Specifically, the incident in folklore during the first season of Pochettino, when after losing a game the squad kids went ballistic on senior players not putting in a shift. When it all kicked off, Pochettino is alleged to have came outside to sort it out, And when the seniors claimed it was not so, out came the data sheets and he said the kids were correct. And that moment marked the point at which most of said seniors were gone within a year, and the kids became key squad members of the Pochettino era.
If Levy sacks manager based on the cost of the severance package then the club is truly in trouble. The minute he thinks Ange isn’t the right man then he should sack him.
Bentancur has shown glimpses of real quality but he epitomises the question that has haunted us for at least since we signed Sanchez: How long do we wait around for a player to show that they can perform consistently to a high level? Too many players in the current squad fall under that dilemma. We hold on to players for years seemingly waiting for things to 'click', but they never do.
Talking of Bentancur...it appears he was wandering off the pitch at the end without acknowledging the away fans and had to be reminded of this requirement by 18 year old Bergvall...
Ange quote: "I would have liked us to play more like who we are than we did tonight. There is a lesson in there for us for sure that if we kind of veer away from that it almost becomes impossible for us." Well he's gonna be ****ing mad when he finds out who determines what way we play in any given game...
Jamie O'Hara said on talkBALLS that Ange should go because he failed to adapt his tactics against Liverpool Jamie O'Hara said on Sktye Sports that Ange should go because he adapted his tactics to be far too defensive against Liverpool Jamie O'Hara apparently got kicked in the head by the same horse that clocked Princess Anne...
Losing away to Liverpool I can accept from a team missing 5 first choice players and on the run of injuries we’ve had. It may have been a bridge too far. What I can’t accept is the humiliating attitude displayed by too many senior players. They don’t have the arrogance of youth or the clear headedness of experience. We have far too many of these types in the squad. It shouldn’t be on the kids to set the standards. It comes down to what I mentioned a few weeks back - control. Too many of the players at the core of the squad don’t have the mentality or the footballing ability or consistency to withstand a storm. Nobody reacts to the flow of a game and tries to change it and dominate it, they just run headfirst from one flashpoint in a game to the next. It’s fundamentally a midfield issue now, despite us still missing depth in one or two other positions.
Just seen a clip of Son sobbing after full time last night. I think it has finally hit him that he will in all likelihood finish his Spurs career trophyless.
I was there for that semi-final game! It was such a crush, my feet were off the ground for the whole two hours! Garth Crooks' finest hour! My 37th year of being a Spurs fan......
He seems to do an awful amount of crying...obviously he was all ability with no grit and now he's just a no grit.
