I’m not a great fan of Ange at the moment. I thought he should have gone after the Everton and Leicester games but I don’t think he can take too much blame tonight and I’d be amazed if he’s not here till the end of the season now at least so just got to hope it gets better and we progress in the other cups. When Liverpool play at their best, doesn’t matter what team we put out as we’re not winning such is the gap between us at the moment. Their midfield 3 battered ours.
I'm gonna stick with my view that we can not just keep sacking managers. Burkinshaw took 5 years to produce a winning team which made him our second most successful manager ever. We had shocking results under him over that 5 years. I have no idea if Ange will come good but I know for a fact that our history of sacking managers has taken us backwards over the past 6 years.
I seem to be with you on this @remembercolinlee ! My head is screaming "sack the stubborn bastard" now, but for some reason there is small part of me willing him to succeed. Can't put my finger on it but I can only think that they have finally driven over the edge...
I've given up hoping that he can bring this round. He's a goner. I'm now intrigued as to how long COYS Daniel will go with this situation...and what will be the cause of him ending another awful appointment. Of all the coaches to continue to dodge the bullet, why this one? Bad luck, I suppose?
I think I’m just now at a stage of apathy to be honest. I’ve become such a miserable **** over the last few years with Spurs and lost faith in everything - the hierarchy are diabolical, the majority of players lack mettle and we’ve hired managers that either haven’t been the best fit and/ or not been backed enough with the current one being truly abysmal. I repeat it time and time again that he’s a genuinely top bloke but I’m struggling to think of a worse gaffer than him at Spurs in the last 20 or so years. Every issue we have he exacerbates tenfold. But I just (almost) don’t care any more. Even last night, we got battered, embarrassed and yet as soon as the final whistle went I switched over to the darts and felt almost nothing. Those who have been on here for years will know that when we have really bad results I tend to rant to the hilt with a 10k word essay yet I just couldn’t be arsed to say more than a few small posts, most of them satirical or comical (or trying to be ). The last 4-5 years I’ve felt so disconnected to the club. There’s no plan, there’s little ambition and we’re just watching a sinking ship slowly fade away whilst clubs with lesser resources dream far bigger than us.
Ange is the antithesis of what we need. We need a coach who can be flexible with systems and develop young players. So, we employ a stubborn bloke, who can't or won't coach the players, even on match day when were up against it and runs players into the ground. Will we get the next one right?
Rhetorical questions are great, aren't they? I know what RCL says (about 'giving time') is right, but I cannot remember being in such a negative frame of mind from 77-80 despite the poor performances. The injury crisis has masked what appears to be a delusional sense of how to play at this level and his own abilities and role as a coach. It happens every game, but last night exemplified it: no on-field senior leaders - I exclude the likes of Gray and Spence who lead by example - and the 'coach' stands motionless on touchline like some ****in' manikin. Ironically, I thought we actually saw some possible glimpse of the on-field leadership from our 3 day in, loan signing!
Archie Gray Lucas Bergvall Destiny Udogie Pape Matar Sarr Mikey Moore Mickey van de Ven And that's before mentioning the young players developing on loan
In the case of Gray and Bergvall (and even Moore), are they being developed or just played out of necessity. Micky has been seemingly broken beyond repair, Udogie has regressed this year to the point where most people would rather Spence kept his place that leaves Sarr and he has in the main been disappointing certainly not really kicked on from a positive start. Those on loan elsewhere are hopefully developing as do we need them to.
Sad to say that I have now reached the point where Gerry Francis is considered a better Spurs manager than Ange.
Gray and Bergvall were getting cup and European starts long before the injuries started piling up, and Moore got a start against Palace when our only injury of note was Mickey Van The reality is that Ange's treatment of young players is pretty similar to that of Harry Redknapp: they'll play once they have a decent amount of first team football in their legs already And this is why the academy seems to be getting overlooked, but isn't: Gray and Bergvall already had a full season of experience in their legs when we signed them (and Bergvall was about to get most of a second) which meant that Ange had faith they could come in when needed, while in comparison someone like Alfie Devine had a couple of sub appearances in the cups so hasn't done anything to say he could be counted on when needed, hence his various loans in the last eighteen months
Hope you're all watching the Birmingham v Newcastle game. A chance to possibly see our next coach... No, not Eddie Howe, but the (cheaper) Chris Davies.... You read it here first!
