Cmon, you lot have isak and Gordon so have a great chance. Beating arsensl is every bit as hard as beating us.
Also the game is after one of our champions league legs - hopefully that's on a Tuesday otherwise that gives Newcastke a slight edge
Newcastle home 26th feb CL first leg : 4/5 march Saints 8th march CL second leg 11/12 Marc Cup goal 16th march
While there was only one goal in it there was always the worry that Son or Kulusevski could score out of nowhere, and Son nearly did, but it wasn't exactly finger-biting tense.
It really was comfortable wasn't it. I don't think they knew what to do with the lead, they'd have probably been better off losing the first leg 1-0 tbh!
the media seem to be tearing into spurs like as if they have been just waiting for it to ramp up the pressure on Ange. Redknapp (who sometimes pretends to be a red) is really a spurs man and he just went in with both boots In reality spurs have lost (again) but without solanke, without maddison and without van den ven, romero and vicario. They've not bought a good keeper there. thats an absolutely bang average on who made loads of dodgy errors in the air and off the ground kicking. They had richarilson who after one tussle had totoally lost his head then when it got too tough walked off (i'd be shicke dif he really is injured tbh) thye'd tried to park a bus there unitl behind in the tie and honestly they should have just gone high energy even with a "safe approach" as their low block was also passive. theres a world of difference in having a very disciplined line at the back and keeping all 3 lines close so theres no space and smothering a side and then just sitting back and letting your opponent play attack v defence. spurs came out at us once they were behind and suddenly had energy but we ended up scoring 2 more however if we look through the game we had one in the net by szoboszlai but offside in the first half as they were sitting deep and really the goal szoboszlai slotted when they were chasing was kind of the same. I have to say their keeper didn't even try to save it like as if he thought it was wide or just gave up.
It was a bit dull which was probabaly what spurs were aiming for. We were not driving a pace so much as controlling it and probing. We have in games looked harried chasing a goal this season, mostly when behind or an issue has arisen like an equaliser or red card. In this game we played like were were the side a goal up. It was a scrappy enough goal tbh. a poor enough corss missed and a decent finishoff the second player whos not marked and two sputs cbs aslo miss it. We bascially didn't try to score and still got 3 corners for the last 10-15 mins of the first half. we honeslty didn't even want to go forward and were seeing out the half but spurs were so passive we still could walk forward. ONce we scored the pen spurs work up and we actually had to play. the real trick was having jota and macallister to come on.
I don't want to sound like mito and say we only looked good because the opposition were ****e, but there's an element of that for me. It's as though they were waiting to be picked off and just hoping it didn't happen. They had a lot of players missing, but there was still plenty of experience there - and there's no excuse for such a passive attitude regardless of who is playing. Some great play by us, but really there was no serious challenge - it was like a training game. I haven't watched much of Spurs recently, but on last night's showing I'd say they look disillusioned and that Ange has lost the players. Ever since the first leg I've been confident that we'd get through the tie, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite that easy.
Villa game has been moved so now between wolves and city game. Not ideal. Means we play every 3 days for whole of Feb now. City play Madrid on the same day 19th Feb so they’ll get same rest period as us at least
