This is it. Nobody thinks he's ****e, but is he elite or just very good. I doubt we will ever know. Unless city sack him and he starts bouncing round clubs, will we ever really know what he can do. Personally I think of him on a similar level to mourinho, great when things are going well, not so great when things turn. Jose was an abrasive bastard, that played exceptionally dull football. Pep seems much more personable and city for a long time where great to watch, certainly for the neutral and plastics.
That isn't true, Hughes want given a chance to build a side. They signed some fairly high value players to get the ball rolling under him but quickly pulled the rug to bring in Mancini. Same for Pearce and Sven. They were only there to oversee the initially recruitment and get them to "the next stage"
This is important, when talking about spending, it's always about the last 5 years or since pep took over, ignoring the vast sums pumped into the club for nearly 20 years. City have been a well planed machine, going through managers for different stages and spending huge sums to make the next step. Pep is just the tip of the iceberg.
Mourinho is like a locust the way he goes through clubs... Chews everything out of them and leaves an empty husk behind. Pep deserves to be above Mourinho if for nothing else than his ability to persist. Every club Jose gets chased out of is in a worse shape when he leaves than when he took it over. He's a short- term manager.
