I wonder if we will end up employing him through the French club. That could be a way round permit issues although would limit how much time he can spend in the country
*Brexit supporter uses problem caused entirely by Brexit as stick to beat his pet hate with* Sounds sensible…
Either way, I’m sure you would understand that a work permit problem isn’t the fault of the club? No?
Stop it you two. Btw, I raised the permit issue y’day & it does worry me. He was supposedly after by Spuds & NU but they “didn’t get” - anyone know why not? Permit complications? Regardless, it seems to be dragging a bit too much for my liking anyway.
Anyone any idea why a work permit has been, if that's the case, refused when Jurić and other Europeans, players and management, don't have a problem?
Quick search threw up this article on Governing Body Endorsement at https://andywatsongbe.substack.com/p/sporting-directors-and-the-gbe-rules some C&P extracts below. "When Boris Johnson’s signature was finally inked onto the Brexit papers, little did football fans in this country know that their future players, managers, and, even, backroom staff would be denied entry to work in their clubs." "Many Southampton fans have been left unhappy by the fact that their chosen replacement for Jason Wilcox, now at Manchester United, as Sporting Director has been told that he will not be granted a work permit to begin work on the South Coast." "First of all, it is important to establish that there are published and publicly available criteria on what the post-Brexit GBE regulations are. For those people new to the site, GBE stands for Governing Body Endorsement, and this is what is needed for someone who wants to work in the sports industry to gain a work permit from the Home Office. The criteria has been set out by The FA (football’s governing body) for players, managers/head coaches, and a few other roles in the backroom staff, including sporting directors/directors of football." Plenty more explaining the situation and work permit qualifications but it's a sunny afternoon and a walk along the nearby canal and a beer or two on the terrace of my local a far better use of my time. Could well be another ****ing triumph for brexit as Vin so aptly put it.
Will this be the first time our multi club model will show its true benefit to Saints. You'd think we could get wrong this with either employing him in France or Turkey. Even if it's only in the short term.
Appreciate this isn't the politics thread, but can someone explain why a work permit wouldn't be given? Surely someone employed by a professional football club is going to be paid ££££££. That's a good thing in terms of tax etc?

If we manage to use it to get the sporting director we would otherwise be unable to hire, surely that would be a benefit?
Why not just take him to Calais and put him in a dinghy heading for the Kent coast? Would probably save the club paying for a hotel too. please log in to view this image
This smacks of more incompetence. This is the first time a DoF has been denied.. why? He doesn't meet the criteria. They thought that they could get him in without meeting the criteria. "The Spors work permit failure is the first high-profile sporting director hire to have fallen through due to the GBE rules that we are aware of. At current count, nine of the Premier League sporting directors are non-domestic, and the vast majority of sporting directors, 14 of them, have been appointed post-Brexit regulations. However, almost all of them came directly from other football clubs rather than what has clearly been seen by the authorities as a third-party company." Its a consistent pattern now at the club. 'We tried but we couldnt get our player/manager/DoF'. The rules in this case may not be fit for purpose but falling foul of the rules is the fault of the club and leaves us without leadership and vision. Again.
