I think this lad deserves a big thank you from us, in amongst our Euphoria. I think the mark he has left on our club will last a long long time. He has been a fantastic figure in our resurgence. Not only is he a brilliant coach, tremendous with players individually, he is also just a really nice man. I knew of him from his time in the Brum academy. I spoke to a couple of folk there when he came here and they couldnt have been more positive about him. The impact he has had on some of our players should never be underestimated. The young academy lads now in our squad have all been boosted by him. I am quite sure he played a big role in Bellingham coming here. And the upwards pathway for Jobe will again be in part down to Dodds. I would wager he has done a lot with the overseas lads joining us in terms of helping them settle and give them pointers in adapting to this league. You can also see him growing throughout his time with us. His times holding the fort may not have been a success in terms of results. But I dare say he was doing a lot of things right at the end of last season. Not least letting the young lads keep playing and fast tracking their development. Rigg and Jobe in particular have been the beneficiaries of that. But you also see Dan Neil, Hume and the likes becoming far greater influences on the side now, possibly because he let them play through the difficult period without any knee jerk changes. I am absolutely delighted for him to get this job. I have spent enough time in academies to know there are some brilliant young coaches doing unreal work. Too fee of them seem to progress into the mens game, even fewer to the main gig. He has worked his socks off and earned this chance. I would love him to succeed.
Hoping that Doddsy is successful in his new job but also hopeful that allowing him to leave doesn't bite us on the backside for the remainder of the season. The way the players speak about him and how Isidor especially made a point of mentioning him last night in interview shows how much he is thought of. Our loss is definitely Wycombe's gain
Well said .Its clear that behind the scenes he's a popular and well regarded coach. Taking the step up in any job is always tough, but to do it in front of 40k is another level. At least he didn't hide. Good luck to him I hope he makes the step up and has success.
Well said. I’m over the moon that he’s got such a good job (and a little bit surprised - even if he’s earned it on merit). It’s great of Wycombe to give him this shot and i hope they get promoted
I wish him nothing but the best for the future and hope he finds success as the head coach down at the Wanderers. Good luck Mike and thanks for the tremendous work you have done with the squad.
Yep. Hope he does well and that being a manager suits him. He was very clearly part of our revival, so a big thanks for that. Good luck Mike.
Brilliant post and hits the nail right on the head. Good luck to him in his first proper head coach role, I will be watching with interest.
Great thread, he deserves a great send off and a good welcome when Wycombe come here in next season's FA Cup 5th round. Needless to say some of the vile abuse he was given doesn't represent the majority of decent supporters ... ... wonderful that Isidor made that point on national TV last night, especially at such an emotional time.
As I said other day, I have no idea about his coaching ability. As I know **** all to judge him. Bit in those videos behind the scenes and when new players signs he seems like one of them blokes that people tale to straight away and it was clear the players thought a lot of him.
You'd hope Wycombe can become a handy little haven for some of our young players needing to go out on loan ... ... they'll be looked after and properly coached, not to mention having a familiar face when they arrive.
Really appreciate all the coaching work he has done behind the scenes for Sunderland but I really hope his time at Wycombe starts very poorly before recovering after Easter and they drop down to upper mid table!
