At least there shouldn't be any bluster this coming Summer about a re-build of the squad. Assuming NJ is still the gaffer transfer matters should be very quiet. They'll be hoping we are still in the play-off mix when it comes to ST renewal time. That's the only lever they will have left to pull. Personally I would go for slashing of prices; £99 for youths and OAP's, £200 for everyone else. That might get a few thousand more sold and revive some goodwill among the fanbase, though everyone knows we are gradually preparing for a League Two / Conference based future. Perhaps even a semi-professional one once we are out of the Valley. After a Century the Club is coming full circle.
Steve Gallen getting heaps of praise from our lot - and rightly so. Given some proper money to spend, he's worked wonders, and brilliant negotiating with the Stripey Nigels
The consensus on CL & Charlton Twitter today is pretty much this window is underwhelming/ a turkey / worse Cost cutting & skint are commonly used. Why do 606 members think we brought two last min loans in , only a week after N.Jones was very clear again that he didn’t want loans. “developing other club’s players” he called it
One method of measuring the perceived success or otherwise of a Club's transfer window is to see whether the bookmakers have changed their odds for promotion. Have we seen a shift in Charlton's odds for a top 6 finish?
We are currently 11/1 to get promoted. We have come in slightly in the odds in recent weeks, but that is all to do with improved results, not signing two loans.
11/1 is not a million miles from my recent estimate of 6% to 7%, which translates as around 14/1. It is yet to be seen how we will fare against better teams, and / or those who have strengthened significantly in the January window.
All hinges on the ability of certain key players to stay injury free. Our improved form coincided with the return to fitness of Lloyd Jones & Miles Leaburn. Tennai Watson is one of our 19 remaining outfield players, and won’t figure. Presumably there were no offers for him yesterday. Chuks Aneke is a waste of space. Kanu & Anderson haven’t been great. Both keepers have got flaws. Gillesphey has got the turning circle of an oil tanker. When you look at it, we need 5/6 key players to stay fit. The rest aren’t worth a carrot.
The club has put out a video of McIntrye arriving at the club yesterday. Nathan Jones didn’t appear to know who he was - I’m serious It’s quite possible that NJ told Scott & the scouting team to find him a player for the position he wanted strengthened, rather than NJ naming specific players for a position that he was keen on.
If McIntyre is not NJ's man, then presumably if Jones is not impressed with his training he will not pick him. That could be a bit awkward.
It’s not unusual these days for a manager just to highlight a position that needs strengthening, rather than a player. That may be the case here.
I saw that, Scott and Rodwell went steaming in with handshakes and hugs. Jones looked very uninterested.
