As usual I preach my usual mantra, we need all of the Players to play to their strengths, we need good officials, we need a wee bit of luck with the occasional run of the ball, we have the support, we have the pitch with a decent playing surface, the biggest danger is complacency, if they fall for the tales that Swindon are not as good as they were, they are still a decent Division One side who sadly have let some of their best players leave, doesn't mean that they are not a threat. If everything falls into place we will win, simples! Sadly this is Saints and nothing can be taken for granted.
But I agree - as fans we all haveto play our part and make it a noisy one tomorrow and get behind the lads for the whole game!!!
Not sure about Chaplow, at Hartlepool, he didn't turn up in first half, however the hoof ball was by-passing the midfield, so probably got neck ache watching the ball flying over the top of his shiny head. Never a doubt about Hardings commitment, he may not always be effective, but you have to admit he always gives his all.
For me Barnard has to start ahead of Guly on Saturday, but bring Guly on for the last 1/2 hour regardless to switch it up. I think Barnard deserves a start, he doesn't get long enough to make an impact when he comes on. Normal back 4, Chaplow with hammond or Spiderman (don't mind which) in the middle, lalla and chambo on the wings. Would be good to get forte on for a good run out too. I know it's been said before but Adkins DOES leave his changes too late. I play, and know how difficult it is to impose yourself on a game if you're given 10/15 mins. We're all experts though aren't we........ :emoticon-0126
Davis Butterfield, Fonte, Seaborne, Harding Chamberlain, Chaplow, Schneiderlin, Lallana Lambert, Guly Swindon will be lackng the confidence to press us and attack us so we will need to make the most of our ball players, creative players and players who can drop into spaces if we are going to come out on top. I can't see Swindon troubling us too much defensively, but like with anyone, we should watch out for counter attacks and stay alert at set plays. That side can quite comfortaby be flexible and play as a 433/4231 which is good because we need to be unpredictable and stretch them about to find a way through.
Hey welcome Monkeyman..... yes this is where most Saints fans seem to congregate at the moment........Enjoy the forum we look forward to your contribution.......
Not sure what happened to my last post Itchen but hey Have put in the rquest hopefully it should be within .5 of an hour or so? Or half an hour what ever takes you fancy ......
This is the best chance we've ever had to beat them finally so i'm confident that we can get the 3 points. i'm going to say a 2-0 win with lambert and chaplow scoring
I am going to predict that we will win tomorrow. I am also going to predict that they will not need to use the sprinklers on the pitch. I will probably get wet walking back to my car, but as long as the first part of my predictions comes good, I won't be too bothered.
TEAM: Davis Richardson Fonte Martin Harding Chamberlain Chaplow Schneiderlin Lallana Lambert Barnard SUBS: Shea, Jaidi, Seabourne, Dickson, Hammond, Guly, Forte We should stick with a traditional 4-4-2 formation and Barnard should be brought back into the team. Guly had a good run of games so we signed his permanent. But recently he hasn't shown the same sharpness so change things around. Martin has waited ages to get his chance and I think in previous games he has been a part of he has played well. Hammond doesn't do it for me. Schneiderlin has much better technical ability, eg; passing, crossing etc... Chaplow has let me down yet. A player that gets stuck in is what we want and he gets forward which is something HAmmond and Scheiderlin don't do enough.
Another not606 virgin - have posted very occasionally on Beeb 606 as StonySaint, usually put off by the WUMs. Agree that Swindon are far from the team they were with Austin and Co - we really should be getting this particular bogey buried (is that what you do with bogeys?) with a solid performance and victory.
40000thheadman...Welcome to not606! Hope you enjoy the new home for Southampton FC / League One banter
Good start to the week-end, Charlton just lost to Notts County 0 1 and BWP missed a Pen. The pitch was a mess.
We know they will come to defend, so we need to set a high tempo from the off, and an early goal would be great. BTW when did we last score a goal in the first ten minutes!!??
The last time we scored in the first ten minutes was away to Oldham when we won 6-0. Chamberlain 8th minute.
