He joined the club in this window though. I know it's slightly semantics, but he's a new player for us.
Who knows. Dibling is definitely off and Ramsdale will likely have a clause, so that will be £60m+ from just those 2. Fernandes has ages on his contract so the only way he will go is if we get offered stupid money. He has been good but I can't see anyone willing to spend £40m on him.
Most (including myself) said that about KWP and Alcarez last time. Fernandes is under contract until 2029, so we can demand a decent fee. And whilst I very much expect us to lose him, I wouldn't be gob smacked if no-one pays what we want. It's still only Ramsdale and Dibling who I've totally accepted will be sold. The rest...we'll see.
It will depend on Fernandes. ABK was one of our standout performers when we last went down, was on a long contract and still got a loan move. Not saying Fernandes is/will behave as ABK has but if he wants to go he’ll find a way, even if it’s just a loan.
Not sure why you and a few others are so keen to defend the club. Absolutely pathetic window again. Haven’t even used the last loan slot. Which is a bare minimum for a promoted side - let alone one on course to be the worst in history. We are just a ****ing shambles from top to bottom.
I wasn't expecting **** all this window personally and am happy we didn't spend dough just for the sake of it. Would have actually been much worse if we'd have gone and spunked loads on overpriced ****e in some misguided notion that we might stay up imo.
Really struggle to be bothered by no deadline business today. My one concern was that the club would panic and spend more money rashly to try and appease people. This season is done. Sit on the money, make some hires, spend in the summer. We are down, have been for many weeks Also let's be honest: anyone we signed would've been quite a way down our list of preferences for the position, and would only be coming here after holding out for as long as they possibly could to see if they can get anything better than playing for a team that's already relegated at the midway point I'd rather see what we have with Welington and Grønbæk (perhaps it's nothing), bank the money and spend from a position of strength in the summer window when we are one of the most attractive offers in the league, plus have clarity on the manager and sporting director roles I don't get the point in spending from a position of weakness right now, getting people that we are punting on for the sake of it - but don't really want - and then in six months time we're in the Championship anyway with even more **** to unload and more people sitting there on long-term contracts. We made that mistake in the 2022/23 season (more understandable as we were in touching distance and it was first full season of ownership). But that said, I am very happy to not see it repeating I also don't think Juric will be here next season. Let's face it, if you are hiring a Sporting Director to come in and overhaul things, rebuild the squad and off-field operations then they aren't going to be tied to a rebuild and not be allowed to hire their own coach. So I'm pretty sure he sails off into the distance in the summer, with an extra year's money in his account, and is never seen in these parts ever again. Which was probably always the arrangement, with the insurance of 'if you do somehow get this thing clicking, then we'll keep you on and up your salary' Roll on next season. Solak has moved Ankersen and Kraft to more peripheral roles now where they are not actively in the day-to-day, so let's just hope that Dragan picks a couple of good operators now and they can take things forward from the end of May
To not get a striker is madness. I’d ideally have taken a replacement for Janny B and a striker and we instead got another super young player that probably will sit on the bench and rot and a midfielder who may be a decent one tbf. But how we seem to just continue to not be able to offload the ****e is quite incredible but I don’t believe for a second that Juric didn’t ask for some better attacking options.
In fairness, I can't imagine many Premier League players would want to come here. Maybe some youngsters would see it as a chance to play in the Premier League but would their parent club want them playing in a team that loses as much as we're likely to?
Okay, let's break it down. A "pathetic" window. Your words. We've brought in two good first team players, despite our position. That to me is good. A long way from pathetic. You seem to be basing "pathetic" (strong word) and the club being a "****ing shambles" to be based on the fact we haven't used our last loan slot. In this window. We tried to use it, but rightly wanted a deal to be done permanently if it worked out. Like we have done with Gronbaek. We're down, so what would the point be of using that loan slot just to give a player some experience that we then send back, or we end up in a Toby situation where we'd love to sign them, but all we've done is made them appealing for a bigger club. Unless you have another reason for this window being "pathetic"? In which case, what would you have liked us to have done in our position, which would have changed the scenario from pathetic to good? Because surely that's not just "filling a loan slot"?
Great post. A more eloquent way of what I was trying to say. I also agree re Juric, definitely not expecting him here next season.
Last summer we were hampered by being the last team to know what division we would be for this season. Leicester and Ipswich, not to mention the likes of Everton and Wolves, got a huge head start on us in that respect. Whereas this time, it should be very different. We should know exactly what division we'll be in next season, many weeks before this season ends. So I really hope we take advantage of that. Hopefully we don't waste it by spending ages sorting out the managerial situation. This transfer window is largely irrelevant. The next one most certainly is not.
- Sell one of our brightest young talents - fail to use the last loan slot - fail to offload any of the dross - Fail to strengthen any of the key areas in any way Of course, everyone’s right, the damage was done in the summer and by keeping Martin for too long. But this window is still pathetic for a premier league club.
You really think SR will have the nous to make any decisions early? They’ll leave it all until the last minute as usual and we’ll be left with the same broken squad. They don’t have what it takes to run a premier league team and should sell the club.
