I assume the decision to make Isidor permanent was purely to give us the insurance of an extra loan space should it have been needed (if Watson was sold).
To be fair we've had a few mag fans as Ayers over the years. Lee Clarke is as big a mag as they come, but he gave his all for us when he played (he just did something stupid when drunk on holiday). I'm sure Micky Bridges was a boyhood Newcastle fan. My late dad said it wasn't uncommon for us to have mags on our books and lads fans on theirs. The problem seems to be with idiots like him who go full Geordie nation. If it's really his attitude he's showing that he's utterly unprofessional.
Played about 20 games for Newcastle, never scored and they kept sending him out on loan to one club after another ... ... but he loves the Toon
The culture is very different even when compared to the 90's, there was an expectation of respect if you were a professional footballer, Sunderland and Newcastle's history is littered from lads from both sides (Howey, Harper) and it was mostly never a problem because you were a professional footballer and you were being paid to do your dream job.
They play on opposite wings. it also wouldn't explain why we were after Marcus Edwards before any bids for Watson. A RW is definitely on our radar imo. Whether we get one over the line is a different story though.
Maybe a bit premature but my focus will be shifting to the match. If it is just danns then I’d say it’s been an okay window, and maybe a slight missed opportunity (don’t know if that’s the right phrasing but it’s all I could think of). No key outgoings is great but other than Watson, I never really believed any would be sold. Delighted about Watson and how that was handled. Love the Isidor deal and le fee looks a great coup. Danns gives us sufficient depth up front. I do worry about left back, we’re a cirkin injury away from quite a decent downgrade for the team in that position. Also think we could have done with another winger. Roberts too inconsistent, poveda massively injury prone and we don’t know how long it will take mundle/Watson to get back to full speed (mundle in particular with a potential recurring injury). Hope there’s another surprise to come but more importantly hope there’s 3 points coming our way tonight.
To be honest if my lad was a professional footballer and was playing for NUFC I’d be proud that he’d made it to that level.
We've likely exhausted any options for this window, if they don't believe there is any value out there for us I think they'd rather stick with what they have
I'm pleased overall though. I don't want to gamble or throw money away. It feels like next season is the natural season to really go for it in the summer and next Jan.
I don’t think we did. We announced them all at like 1:30am but they’d all been linked earlier in the day.
