They weren't playing him, so I'm sure they weren't bothered about him coming back, it's just a shame his next move has fallen through.
He can play as left wing back, rather than fullback. More like when defence formed as 3 at the center-back. As a fullback his defence is a bit weak, but might be OK at championship level, who knows, depends on formation, with a very defensive right-back, Lincoln can be more free on the left, while right-back making sure of guard duty with defender formation during attacks. Fenerbahçe is very attacking minded at league, so playing fullback there almost equals to left winger. For example Kadıoglu and Osayi both was deployed in upper front before Fenerbahce days.
Unless we switch to a back 3/5. Egan played that in the Sheff Utd team didn’t he? Would make sense if we’re not signing a left back.
It gets mentioned every season under every coach we’ve had recently but I don’t think we’ll go to a back three or five anytime soon. You’re sacrificing a player in midfield or in the front three to accommodate an extra centre-half. There’s a difference between playing a flat back three/five with wingbacks and what some teams like Man City and Chelsea do when they have a fullback invert into midfield or bomb up as a winger almost and the fullback on the opposite side tucks in as an extra centre-half. If we were to play Lincoln as a left-back, we could in theory have him push up high and wide and the right-back (Coyle or Drameh) tucks in to form a back three in possession.
If it’s the case that we can’t afford the release clause because we’re dangerously close to our FFP limit then it’s entirely self-inflicted. The loan fee and wages for Rushworth, signing Palmer, signing Giles etc. What a waste of money.
We have centre backs suited to a 3 and could put someone else up front but I’ll be shocked if we don’t get a left back today, we’re desperate.
Maybe there just aren't any LB's who are (a) affordable, (b) available, (c) any good or (d) want to come to Hull?
Nearly, he’s actually a really good left back. Been MLS top performing defender for about 2/3 seasons.
