At the risk of being burnt at the stake as a heretic, this season is going exactly the same as last season, and the season before and in the Prem the season before that, if Tom was not the manager what would we be saying about the last 8 - 10 games, would be be happy little bunnies or wanting a new manager and if it was YOUR money that was going to spent on transfer targets that MIGHT JUST work or might be a total disaster would you say here you go , how many millions do you want from me?? I think Tom was pushed in a year or two before he was really ready, he needed more experience or an older head in the background who knew exactly what was needed to succeed in the top two divisions, regardless of who we might of brought in this window and if we fluked promotion we could well end up like the current bottom three in the Prem What we as a club need now is for Tom to be given a year or two to see how good he can be and to use the next 16 games to see how many if any of our promising young players can make the step up to be profession footballers at this level, and depending on that make plans NOW for who stays and who goes in the summer, trouble is will our owner be that patient, and to be honest if I personally were receiving the abuse he is now getting I would be totally ****ed off If our owner makes a couple of decisions we do not like or agree with are we still diehard Watford supporters or Glory Hunters, I know the answer for our generation but not for the rest of our fanbase
Oh yes that is very true. There does seem to be an element of "our Tom" who cannot be criticised at all. And agree some of the abuse and stick for Pozzo/Nani etc has been OTT because it's not just like we have a few bob lying around clearly and well they can just not disappear by magic. But its a shame we haven't even been able to get in a couple of loan players from the Premier league for example although as you say any signing isn't certain to be successful. Trouble is some younger fans only know us in the Premier league or being quite good so don't like it anymore than we aren't. Although seems to be older ones complaining too but then that is just natural for football fans.
I know just how hard it is to run a medium-sized business when the income drops, and you have to reduce your costs accordingly. You have to try and balance what a reduced workforce will be able to produce, and will it be enough to keep things ticking over enough to pay the bills. The really difficult part is trying to rebuild when things show signs of improving. Will it be sustained, so you speculate by taking on additional workers to meet the demand, or do you take it slowly to hedge your bets? Both paths have their disadvantages. WFC is a large business that has seen the income halved, so there was little option but to reduce the outgoings. Player wages have been reduced, so the quality is not what it was. No matter what you spend on a player, you cannot be 100% he will be better than what you have. The fans do not foot the bills, but are happy to complain about the person who does. There are numerous examples of clubs that tried to invest in expensive players who do not produce, and then the clubs have faced administration. I suspect some of the fans have not thought through what supporting AFC Watford would be like.
AFC Watford ground sharing with Wealdstone or Barnet is where we could have been if the Pozzos had not rescued us from Bassini
Yes BUT he did not force the club to pay what he was owed and even when the Pozzos took over he waited until the club was in a position to pay him back We owe him almost as much as we owe the Pozzos for us still being here
https://x.com/watford_fcnews/status/1886177406349676585 Is out of favour a bit but a loan move would be strange tbh unless he really wants to go now. Never know with us though.
I mean we did actually buy 6/7 players in the summer which is quite a lot tbh to "back" Cleverley but apart from Vata they haven''t really work out. That could happen again and then we really would be in a mess. TBH Andrew French didn't help by saying Tom wants "oven baked ready made" Championship footballers.. I mean sure maybe if you have the money and want to take the risk but since when the Pozzos brought home grown or experienced Championship players. I mean Sissoko, Festy and Jebbison could do into that bracket maybe? And then we had all this Cleverley is going to be sacked - oh no he isn't stuff. The Nani interviews went down like a lead balloon too. It's all been a bit unsavory.
Good point and he did play in the last game so probably start another one soon going by the way we shake the defence around each game!
Andrew French, reporting/speculating (possibly in the know) that there will be 2 coming in (not a 9) and one 'first-teamer' leaving
Porteous then? People already saying we must get 4/5 in . Would be nice but a pipe dream . No certainty any new signing would be guaranteed to be good with our record anyway.
If he wants away as has been reported, I can't see him going to Sheffield U. They're in danger of going up this season and there's no way he is good enough for the EPL.
