If, and I repeat IF, it turns out Udoh arriving means Archer leaving even I won't defend it because that would be ****ing bonkers. Can't see it though.
Yeah I don't see it as that at all. It would be a surprise to see Archer go out, but then he's not getting on the pitch, so I don't see it impacting us all that much in reality. We know the squad needs trimming at this point, and that it needs a complete overhaul later, so I'm not too worried about what happens to the fringe players currently.
Archer clearly wasn’t rated by Martin or now Juric so I can’t see him playing much between now and the end of the season. Similar to BBD that he looks like he could be a real asset in the Championship and letting him go permanently seems short sighted. We don’t know what happens behind the scenes, maybe Archer and BBD are both ****ed off about the limited chances, I mean when your team is doing as badly as we are and you can’t even get into that team I can see it pissing you off. If he does go permanently then just means we are going to need a couple of strikers next year as well as midfielders and possibly others depending who leaves. Just seems unnecessary to me to add to the number of players we need when on paper it looks like we have a very good strike force for the Championship already. As I say though, if they are kicking up a storm behind the scenes and want out now then probably a different story. I guess ideal scenario is they both get loaned and come back next season
Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, it wasn't so long ago we were all in (sort of) agreement that this season is gone and doesn't really matter any longer, over and above beating the Derby record. But now everyone is expecting us to make x and y signings. Not sure I get it.
I want us to sign a lower league striker, if he scores a few goals this season, he should be ready for next season in the Championship. Adebayo scored a few for Luton last season as an example.
For me it's that there are still so many uncertainties. We don't know if Juric will stay, or who will come in next. We don't know if Tall Paul is good enough, or whether he wants to stay if we go down, and so on. Archer would rip up the Championship though, and he is a must for our squad if we go down, because we won't find a decent replacement for the same money. Only thing I can think is that maybe Archer and a few others have relegation clauses and that is why we aren't giving them game time. Or maybe attitude problems.
Yeah, it's hard to know what's going on behind the scenes - there's obviously something not right at the mill, going by the situation with Downes, SAA etc. It does feel like there's a lot that needs weeding out and a full refresh. Agreed on the Juric point though.
Yeah I don’t get the sudden demand for signings. We are very unattractive at the moment so who in their right mind is coming here on a perm deal? We won’t be able to attract the best Championship players because they will hope one of the promoted teams wants them in the summer. We won’t be able to attract a PL level player because we are going into the Championship. I was surprised we even had an option on someone like Gronbaek who was highly thought of. Think today could be busy on the outs though. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 3 or 4 leave
That’s pretty much where I am with it. Only ins will likely be people like Udoh, who are options for the future. Might be a loan in from someone, but otherwise it’s trimming time.
