Pretty sure it does still stand. When Josh Tymon made his debut there was a lot of talk about it because he was 16 too, but not as young as Edeson.
And as a centre half one of my best he seemed to be able head defensive balls higher and farther than attacking ones by about 30yds!
Deacy's transformation from being one of the worst centre forwards to one of the best central defenders at the time was incredible. He was subbed off after one of his regular **** performances at CF to much jeering from Kempton, and he responded with a double 'V' sign, which only antagonised everyone even more - but this episode seemed to clear the air, and somehow, he turned into a bit of a cult figure at centre back.
Phil Holme wasn't very good, but always seemed to come up with the odd goal. Doubt if he started many games.
He wasn't bad for that level - I seem to remember him suffering an injury from tripping over his dog.
Some of the names that I recall are ones that I don't remember ever looking like they belonged in a City team on the up and up. Roland Edge springs to mind. The fact he left us when we won promotion to the Championship and immediately moved to Folkestone Invicta sort of summed him up. Danny Webb I remember being a massive disappointment the season before that. Think he scored in the Autoglass Windscreen Cup and then just fell into obscurity. I remember my Dad telling me that he was a good signing because Webb's Dad played for Chelsea. Think he put that myth to bed.
The story doing the rounds at the time was that Peter Taylor signed young Webb as a favour to his dad, a mate of PT's apparently; it could have been something from the infamous dossier or maybe had a grain of truth in it.
Didn't Taylor sign Stuart Green when boss at Palace because he didn't want his daughter going to (quote) a $hithole like Blackpool....Good judge was Taylor.
My dad would describe him as having ‘them to two ‘ feet , more like ‘quarter to three’ !! it took him too long to square his feet to the ball !!!
if my aging memory serves, didn't Greeny get with PT's daughter after he signed for us and not before?
I know Lewis gets a lot of stick but at Yeovil him and Ashby calmly ran the midfield for us to succeed in that game and get promoted so I’m always grateful for that from him .
He unfairly got a lot of stick because he tended to follow PT from club to club - Taylor implicitly trusted him to do the job that he was signed for; he's never gonna be in a list of our greatest players but he's certainly a long way from being among our worst.
