Sad to hear about the death of John Hales, his colours carried by grey steeplechasers have been some of the great moments in the last couple of decades.

One Man being one of his great stars and then Neptune Collonges winning the big handicap was a great sight. Throw is horses like Politilogue and he has left a legacy.

    a sad bit of news.

Ah that is sad news. John Hales a bit of a legend round these parts with his toy manufacturing company. He was on ITV racing only a few weeks back when the admirable Protektorat trounced the oppo at Windsor. RIP.

One Man will always be my all-time favourite NH jumper. So sad when he tragically fell and died from the resultant injuries at Aintree, so soon after his great win at the Cheltenham Festival. Could be quite wrong, Nass, but I don't think John Hales was actually the owner at this awful time in NH racing. Tried to find-out for myself, but old PC is uncooperative this morning.

I think he was the owner of One Man when he was killed at Aintree Swanny. It was why the family took a lot of convincing to run 2012 winner Neptune Collonges there. Certainly that’s the view of the local rag this morning with their obituary. I would caveat that the local paper doesn’t always set it’s journalists a very high bar for accuracy

    14:15 Lingfield - Drayton Flyer

Class-4 Maiden Hurdle over 2m on soft ground.

Lauro gelding has as good a chance as any in this affair. Sean Bowen on board for the Olly Murphy stable.

5/2 (Unibet) best price at time of writing, on the ATR site.

Thanks, Chan, I knew it was an eventful time in horseracing history, albeit tragic. Just could not remember the fine details.

He was the owner of One Man - who was his first winner and pattern winner. One Man - in my list of favourite racehorses
