I guess Myhill will get a great reception tomorrow night! Goalkeeper Boaz Myhill returns to KC for Birmingham game IT WAS with a heavy heart that Boaz Myhill bid an emotional farewell to Hull City in the summer of 2010. In six and a half years of service the goalkeeper had come of age in East Yorkshire. Arriving from Aston Villa's reserve ranks in 2003 as a fresh-faced rookie, Myhill left as a proven Premier League and international footballer. With that comes a timeless debt towards the Tigers and when he arrives back at the KC for the first time with Birmingham tomorrow, he says it will be a special occasion. "I was speaking with my missus about it on Sunday night and I'm not too sure what my emotions will be to be honest," Myhill told the Mail. "Obviously I want to do well and give a good account of myself but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be feeling some sort of emotion. "All my children were born in Hull and so far, the best years of my career were spent in Hull. It's been a massive part of my life. "Hull City will always be the team that gave me my start in football. "From taking me from the youth team with Aston Villa, to taking me up through league football is something that I'll never be able to be thankful enough for to be honest. "It would be silly for me to just say it's another game so it's something I'll have to prepare for and get my head switched on." Unlike Nigel Pearson, who was roundly barracked when leading Leicester back to the KC Stadium on Saturday, Myhill will be assured of a reception afforded only to the great and good of Hull City when his is the first name announced on Birmingham's team-sheet. Alongside Ian Ashbee, Andy Dawson and Ryan France, Myhill featured in all three of City's promotions in 2004, 2005 and 2008 to earn an unrivalled place in the Tigers' history. In 257 league appearances for City, 277 in all competitions, he conjured a string of memorable performances and a remarkable 72 clean-sheets in four different divisions. Little wonder City fans share his fondness of a brilliant union. "It'll be nice to come back and see a lot of people again," he said. "A good reception will always mean a lot to players. More than anything I'll just remember all the times I had when I was there. "I'll get on with the game but I'll always remember the support I had when I was there, the fans were always fantastic with me." Myhill was just 21 when he was plucked from obscurity by Peter Taylor in December 2003. A first season with the Tigers saw him oust Paul Musselwhite in the Division Three promotion season and while he went on star for City at Wembley, the Emirates and White Hart Lane, a trip to Huish Park on May 1, 2004 continues to top his favourite memories. In front of 8,760 fans, Myhill helped City end an eight-year stay in the basement division with 2-1 win at Yeovil. "I think the away game at Yeovil when we were promoted the first time is still my best memory. "It was a dream really. I was a young player who just wanted to get regular football so to get promotion was unbelievable. That set up everything that followed." And what followed was something very special. Myhill missed just one game as City finished runners-up in League One 12 months later and after three years in the Championship, he was between the sticks as the Tigers beat Bristol City in the Championship play-off final. International recognition also came with Wales but once he had featured prominently in City's two-year Premier League adventure, he eventually became a casualty of the demise. As former owner Russell Bartlett desperately attempted to keep the wolf from the door in the wake of relegation, Myhill was sold to West Brom for £1.5m just seven days before the 2010-11 season began under Nigel Pearson. "People always say things in football can be a whirlwind and this definitely was," he explained. "I went out to training knowing nothing about it, and then came in from training and I was on my way down there. "In football when people are accepting bids for you, you have a decision to make. "I felt as though it would be a good opportunity for me and a good move for Hull City as well. It wasn't a case of any shouting at each other saying "you must do this" or me saying "you've got to let me go", it was something all parties felt would be most beneficial to the club." A move to the Hawthorns is yet to see Myhill flourish and at the start of this season he swapped places with Ben Foster to join Birmingham on a season-long loan. The switch has given the 29-year-old first-team football both in the Championship and Europa League and although Chris Hughton's men sit 14th after a 1-0 loss at Cardiff on Sunday, hopes remain high that Birmingham can bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Myhill's first game back at the KC tomorrow night will see him attempting to trip up former team-mate Nick Barmby but he admits the fixture will be a step into the unknown. "There's Daws (Andy Dawson), Richard Garcia and Tom Cairney but beyond that I'm not sure there's too many more players from my time," he said. "That's football and things move on. We know it'll be a tough game because Hull don't concede too many goals. I'd expect it to be tight but it's a good chance for us to get some points and that's what we'll be looking to do." http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-14054193-detail/story.html
Great servant for the club, and having met him several times as well he's one of the nicest blokes you'll meet. Bound to get a good reception from us and deservedly so, hopefully he won't be pulling off any of the saves he made in that Spurs game tomorrow night!
Hope the city faithful give him a hand before the game. It was exceptional circumstances when he had to leave, and he is an big exception to my personal thoughts about not applauding opposition players.
100% ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this. not much else to add really. Just hope he has an off night on weds. Lol. At one end a True Legend - Myhill at the other end a true dog end - king.
Quality. Hope they print the words in the match programme. or even the scoreboard so even the women can join in.
