They supposedly bid £2.5m before. Seems a massive jump to now be at £8m. And why even bother more than tripling your bid if the player isn’t interested. Pinch of salt with all these rumours.
Yeah, I very much doubt they have bid £8m - more likely to be €8m. Either way, shame that he wants to stay and leave for free.
I want KWP to stay this window. He's been our best, and my favourite, player throughout these last few drab seasons. Would be sad seeing him go right now. Would rather keep him til the bitter end in the hope that something positive happens (a few wins or a cup run), and he leaves under slightly better circumstances. Don't care about making a few million quid off him.
Its a bit odd to me that anyone would want to see him sold. There's a bit of virtual Director of Football going around everywhere at this time of year. I'll check my account but I'm pretty sure I don't get a cut of any transfer money myself so whether the club gets 4 or 40 million for him is exactly the same to me as if they get 0. The strategy of selling everyone decent for mega bucks sure as hell isn't working so hey, lets try keeping them and wringing them out. It'll be different at least.
Saying you don't care because it doesn't affect your finances is like saying you don't mind if the club spent £30m on re-signing Wesley Hoedt - it's not your money so who cares! It's pretty clear to me. The benefit of keeping him is... pretty much nothing. I love KWP, particularly for staying and playing so well last season, but the reality is he has been pretty crap this season. Whether he stays or goes we will finish bottom of the league and go down. But if we sell him we will get an extra £8m-£10m (transfer fee + wages saved) to spend next season. That is big money in the Championship. Who knows, depending on finances, selling KWP now might be the difference between keeping someone like Fernandes next season.
Bayern Munich have apparently joined the race for Dibling. It really shouldn't be too difficult to start a bidding war - we managed it with just Liverpool and Chelsea for Lavia.
Can't see him wanting to go to Bayern though. Bidding war is only good if it's all clubs he wants to go to.
If the reports are true that he’s open to a move to Leipzig then pretty sure he’d want to go to Bayern. If the homesickness things are true then, yeah, unlikely he’d be looking to move abroad. In some ways though it might make it easier, probably more likely for his family to move with him if it’s a move to a different country than an hour or two down the road. If it was someone like Bayern then I can see us potentially being able to negotiate a loan next season as well, still think that is pretty unlikely but more probable if he moves to one of the real top clubs
If Bayern were to out bid everyone and we only accepted their offer, his choice would be stay at Saints until 2027 or join Bayern on a massive contract... I wonder who he would pick!
In a single game of football, if we were 4-0 down at half-time, would you take off all our best players to rest them for the next game, because the current one is already lost? If so, fair enough. After all a loss is a loss. Personally I wouldn't. I would argue that there is a big difference between losing 8-0, and losing 4-2, for a number of, perhaps less obvious, reasons.
Or wait until a bid from elsewhere is accepted. Depends how much we need the money I suppose. If we're relying on selling him for a big fee this Summer and Bayern bud £5m more but he doesn't want to go there we might be forced to accept a lesser fee. All ifs and buts of course. I just don't see him going abroad personally though I would like him to.
Still a little bit of time, but I'm a little disappointed that we've not done much in the outgoings department. Guess no-one wants players who aren't good enough for the worst ever PL side
