The best loans happen at the end of the window as they often rely on the parent club bringing in someone new themselves, or they want to get the best part of the month out of the way in case of injuries

Interesting Villa paid 5M compensation to get Emery. Probably shows if you want the best you have to pay the big bucks. He’s doing some job there
I think we paid Bielsa and his staff £6m per season. Well worth it. The squad he inherited needed at least £20m spent on it to turn them into promotion contenders. Instead, he worked with what he had and promotion was achieved on a relative pittance. Always better to invest in a great manager than wasting millions on a hit and miss transfer strategy.
Five seasons ago Villa were on a par with us. Difference was after two poor managers in smith and Gerard they went big with emery. We already had the quality manager and replaced him with a load of ****. We gone in opposite direction to them. Farkes good at our level now but a million miles away from emery standard. Problem is we always recruit from the unemployed managers list
Just had a Quick Look at their signings, they wasted a huge amount before Emery came in, similar to ourselves. Emery looks like he brings in two big signings a season, I agree though he is doing a fantastic job. Targett is definitely wanted but only on loan, Newcastle want to sell him for £15m so they’re holding out for someone to make a bid. Seems like a possible deadline day deal unless anyone is mad enough to stump up that kind of money.
