For pity's sake I thought we were a Football Club, not sheltered accommodation. PS: No negative reflection on you @Dick Plumb1 , thanks for posting the information
The age-old question at Charlton- If he hasn't been playing how has he been scouted? Our success rate at signing such players must be near zero.
What is this delusion that footballing morons keep falling for at CAFC; That a player whose years of stats reveal him to be basically shyte, will suddenly become a world-beater if we give him a contract. That all his previous poor record is down to a series of bad luck events. Not that he is simply rubbish. It's wishful thinking of the most pathetic kind. An insult to the intelligence of fans.
We tend to be a cynical bunch on here, and with good reason. Once again on other Wally-ish forums I’m reading plenty of “my mate on Facebook told me Gilbert’s a good player” comments. Exactly the same thing was said, by the same people in the last 3-4 years, about … Dylan Levitt Matt Smith (x2) David Davis Conor McGrandles Louie Fiorini Tyreeq Bakinson Terry Taylor etc, etc. “My mate on Facebook” turned out to be wrong in every case, and looking at Gilbert’s threadbare CV, there’s every chance that he’s about to join this list of duds. Surely to fvcking God we are capable of scouting a decent player from L2 , and then investing a fee and a long term contract for him. Why does it always have to the same profile of dud loan / free agent ?
I love comments similar to the below on the transfer threads of the other two forums. Real Tin Foil Hat stuff, so typical of a section of our fanbase. I noticed that Mo Salah didn’t play for Liverpool at PSV Eindhoven last night in the Champions League - seems strange, and suggests to me that we could be trying to sign him.
