Ambition is different to each person i suppose but for me it's always a lazy argument to make. Some people just want us to spend lots of money but they forget that spending money doesn't mean the player is good. Rusyn failed here, yet he cost more than the likes of Stewart, Roberts, Jobe, Clarke (i think), Ballard, Hume, Mayenda etc so was Ruysn a more ambitious signing than those? No he wasn't. Others think signing proven championship players is showing ambition, its not imo. In the L1 days our 'plan' was to sign players who have done well in the division before (power, grigg etc) but our new owner and KS had an ambitious plan (imo) to sign promising young players and add in a couple players that had played at a higher level (evans, pritchard, batth) - that worked. I think ambition is doing something different to everyone else, but commit to it, we are doing that and what ever happens in this window I'll still say that. The club is focusing on both short and long term plans, sometimes as fans we focus on the short term results only. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next week brings, if I'm being greedy I want 3 to come in but I don't think we will get that many Busy day for me today so will check in every so often to see if there's any new links
What do we THINK we’ll get in? I’m going versatile forward on loan from abroad and a left field full back, would love a winger too but think the forward will be used to cover that, can’t see more than 2 coming in unless a one for the future pops up like an aleksic type
Spot on mate. Ambition is the strong desire for success or achievement and is what we see in bucket loads under the KLD/KS regime. Some can question, for which I have very little sympathy, the methods being employed, but surely no-one can question our ambition.
with SU getting all these players in now its a risk, Cannon on his first game for them didnt exactly set the world on fire. just because nothing seems to being done doesnt mean nothing is being done. this window is known for clubs not pulling the trigger and spending silly amounts, at best we need 2/3 in, by Monday 11pm. with players coming back we will be a in a stronger position than most think. 5 points off Leeds 3 points off SU 2 points off Burnley. This will be the tighest the league has ever been, we are apart of after spending a fraction of what the 3 clubs above have. lets all chill. relax and enjoy whatever madness this Tuesday has installed for us now as its payday for me, Im off to get a breakfast at work, £5 for breakfast including coffee. Peace out mudderfackers
It's a tricky one as we only have the one loan space left. Where's the biggest need? A forward that can cover the wings? A winger? Full back cover? I can't see us bringing all 3 in, I think I'd like that versatile forward and full back cover, bit god knows who or from where
Just another piece on ambition; On the sale of Jack Clarke, we got how much? It was probably less than 15 million, let's say we got 12 upfront? We spent a good 5 on Aleksic and Abdullahi, before you taken into consideration the loan fees for Mepham, Samed and Le Fee.
I am hearing that we are trying to make Mepham's deal full time, but will sort this out after the window as he will be a free transfer in the summer
Basically, it's not like we broke the Internet selling Clarke, we got a fee that was on the low end of many people's expectations, with incentives based on now seemingly impossible things. I really hope we get the going rate for a highly rated championship teenager if we don't go up.
It'll be another I imagine where we offer a deal depending on where we are, if of course Bournemouth don't get there first, I believe they can extend his contract. He'll be on about 40 grand a week I'd have thought.
I think Bournemouth have a club option for a yr so we might have to still agree a fee with them Hope we sign him as no matter what league we are in he would be good for us
That's why I wondered if we would go for someone like Ryan Sessegnon plus CF - 1 permanent and 1 loan Sessegnon isn't getting a look in at Fulham this season, and he can cover both wide positions but also LB He was a highly rated youngster who has lost his way in the game
I'd love us to get a striker, versatile forward and a full back in but I highly doubt we are looking for a full back as I'm fairly sure RLB has said before he thinks we have sufficient defensive depth
Were sat 3 points behind automatics with the current squad, that’s been a massive task considering the teams that came down, we’ve slowly built an exciting young team and yes it’s frustrating at times but we’re still in this race with a lot of games and points to play for. I can’t understand how anybody can say we lack ambition, our current squad cost less than £5m yet is probably worth over £100m, when was the last time we could have ever said that. I like the way we go about our business and keep things under wraps, and long may it continue. I believe we’ve got a couple of decent signings lined up with deals that will probably take time as we’re now doing due diligence. one or two more signings and I think we will kick on, however I think this current squad can go all the way.
Important to remember the vast majority of this team finished 16th last season, all while selling what appeared to be our only capable player from last year
I think it's because we are so close to being a fantastic side in this league, but the worry is we can't keep the Bellingham's, the Neil's etc of this world. Me? Well I'm ok with where we are at, I'm in the middle of we are no where near a Premier league side but make an allowance for our recruitment should we get there. First season back is going to be a rough ride, but short term pain, long term gain. Says he who in his 50 years of supporting us has had pretty much long term pain
