I completely agree that the situation is different now so it is hard to compare. But to justify wanting him next season surely you have to see some improvement? So far, there hasn't been any. It is one thing to say Juric has taken over at a really difficult time so we can't expect much, but it is different to say you want him as manager despite seeing no change in results.
Dude, we are down. We have the luxury of not needing another point this season. Who cares? I would rather we spent half the season prepping for a glorious Championship season next year than picked up a couple of consolation wins.
We will definitely have Ivan Juric as manager next season as according to this he is the owner. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/news/63726/
Completely agree with the "we are down already" piece, but firstly I feel we need some dignity, show some fight, and not allow the players to chuck in the remainder of the season (I'm aware you didnt say that). Also, what is prepping for the Championship - are we doing it already, and what exactly is it - how do we prepare for it? You thinking not buying players in Jan, and trying to offload some this month also? Surely we would have a coach who may have stayed had we been better (unlikely given results), so if they brough in a coach whose style is a press then presumably if they do replace Juric, they will recruit a coach with a similar style. Otherwise what is the point? That said, doesnt Rohl play the press? Not sure if he plays 3 CBs or 2 - this would be a big thing - I dont think playing 3 works for us.
I don’t see anyone saying they want him as manager next year at the moment (maybe I’ve missed people saying that) Just with my eyes I can see we are better, the way we are trying to play is more suited to being a **** side and we’ve looked dangerous at times in most games. That is with coming into a side mid way through the season who had won once in 16 games, none of his own players, a squad designed to play a different way to how he wants and some who reportedly were unhappy Martin left I feel like it’s incredibly harsh to judge Juric at all really until the end of the season.
i agree it is too early to definitively judge Juric and call for him to be sacked or anything like that. It would be pointless too as he will be here til the end of the season regardless. However I have seen a fair few fans say they would be happy with him next season and I think someone on here even said he was as good/ if not better than Hassenhuttl (can't actually find that post now but it was along those lines). It was partly in response to Solak coming out and saying he will be our manager next season. That just seemed a stupid thing to say. Surely he should stay neutral and not commit either way. Whatever happens, Juric will get the rest of the season to prove himself. But so far, we were awful before he took over and are still awful after 6 games. You may think we are playing better but we still haven't even come close to winning.
That was me probably about Hassenhuttl. I said Juric has as much pedigree as he had when he joined. Doesn’t mean I want him next year. I wouldn’t have wanted Ralph if we were in the Championship either as I don’t think his style would work with a team where teams sit back against them regularly. Agree about Solaks comments but whatever he said would’ve been analysed. If he said “we’ll see” people would say he wasn’t backing the manager. If he said “lol no” then obviously that wouldn’t go down well with Juric. If you want a positive about what he said then if the players think he’s going to be in charge then it should hopefully keep the ones who want to be here more motivated til the end of the season to impress him so they have a role to play next year. If they know Juric isn’t going to be in charge then they could just down tools until pre season when the new guy is in. But yeah to summarise my opinion on Juric: decent manager and would’ve been exactly what we needed at the start of the season to give us a bit of a chance. Not what we need next year so I’d be looking for someone else
After 6 games he had 3 points, so much better than either Martin or Juric. My point was that it was odd for Solak to say he will be here next season after losing 6/6. Just as it would have been odd for the Bournemouth owner to make any comment on Iraola's future after 6 games.
He also had a squad of players that had established themselves in the Premier League. Agree it's odd for Solak to predict the future like that though.
I don't think he would say anything different in public given that he gave Juric an 18 month contract however I think it would be odd if he was privately thinking that.
I've got no problem with Solak saying that Juric will be here next season. It doesn't mean that he definitely will be - it's just words. I still fully expect us to have someone else in the dugout when we kick-off the new season in August. I just hope we get them in asap after this season finishes - it wasn't until late June that we finally confirmed Martin last time, which isn't ideal.
Interesting comments throughout & in reality, all valid. If Solak is reading this & I doubt it very much, he’ll be thinking, “I can’t win”! And in all honesty, he can’t as he’s attempting to right a **** load of managerial wrongs, which falls on him & his board’s shoulders. I much prefer Juric’s style & I believe the teams marginally improving performances will result in a few wins. He’s obviously here until season end & then as with a lot of teams, who knows.
I know Juric hasn't won any games yet but with the players he has to try and play his style is like trying to run a Lamborghini with parts from a Morris Minor.
I have a feeling that Solak has accepted relegation. Juric is his appointment. What he has done is lose patience with Rasmus and Henrik who basically scammed him. Got him to buy a Premier League team and turned it into a Championship team. People seem to think other managers could do better than Juric. I don't accept that. We have a handful of Premier League players, we have a number of Championship players, we have a number of lazy players who contribute nothing. Juric has got teams promoted in Italy and made them competitive in Serie A. I'm not sure who else would be better who would be prepared to manage us. The whole squad needs an overhaul. The last one made the squad worse. Before we get better, the squad needs to be fitter and more disciplined. At times it plays like a Premier League team but can't for 90 mins. Juric will do that.
A Morris Minor was my first car - 150 FOT was the number plate. The crank handle came in handy in the winter months.
A Ahhh the days of window winders & wing mirrors! Austin 1100 PMO 261F - haven’t got a clue of my other 20 odd cars since!
